I'm wrong on what? That predators are 'designed' to kill? I'm really sorry, but then I don't know which elementary bio class you did miss.

Kovu wrote: Starsky wrote: Wolves that have killed humans have obviously been provoked. I doubt very much that a wolf would wander into a human camp purposefully set out to kill a member of the camp. I'm not talking about wolves simply "killing" humans. Such things happen often, as most people don't know how to act towards predatory animals. I'm talking about learned, and therefore intentionally performed predation on people. Almost any predator is known for doing that, most famously the cats, of course, as they've physical attributes that easily allow them performing such action, a bit less famously in representants of the dog-likes... but they do it. It's all a matter of circumstances. Humans are relatively easy to tackle, if they're unarmed, way easier to tackle than deer or elks. In old age or infirmity it's natural for predators to switch to easier and less risky prey, and if they get often in contact with humans, they can make occasional experiences on how easy it actually is with them. Once learned and adapted in a family, a true outbreak of man-eating can occur in certain areas. With wolves it's simply the way that they get often enough experiences of how dangerous mankind is - it's their fear that avoids them getting in contact with us, so that they hardly ever learn something about our daytime rythms, behavior and social structure. Starsky wrote: A deer, caribou, moose or whatever is part of a wolf's diet therefore, this cannot be classed as 'bad'. A human is not part of their diet. Oh, there you're wrong. USUALLY they hunt such game, yes. The advantage of these animals is that they're usually widely spread and exist in large populations. But any active predator, hence - not those who primarily scavenge, have to go through bottlenecks, when their prefered prey species get scarce. In such a case they can't be choosy, and have to adapt their hunting skills to new species... that clearly doesn't exclude humans from their prey range. ------- Listen, people - it's not my intention to draw a "bad" picture of wolves here, or that I'd want to attack you with my comments. I'm simply stating facts. Wolves need to be "killers", for their own survival. Yet that doesn't make them bad creatures. They have their social and lovely sides, that's true... but you should never forget that they are predators... and there's absolutely no natural reason why a wolf shouldn't consider humans being their prey. We're, although we perform a cruel rape of natural environments and their inhabitants, part of the global ecosystem - same as all other species (animals, plants, funghi...)... and being part of that ecosystem means to eat or being eaten... that's a natural law. And that can't decide about being good or bad. Yet we need to be aware of that law - as that law is what all species follow.
You know what? You need to start DOCUMENTING your facts. The originator of this topic was referring to wolves killing humans. And I have seen very little documentation of wolf attacks in all but rare cases. And usually, either the animal is in some way sick or else provoked and left no option.
So...documentation time. Otherwise, simply stating what it is you do doesn't make you a wolf biologist or canine behaviorist. Present documentation, or drop it.

True, very true.
Just out of interest, are you a wolf biologist, Sepalla?

Nope. I'm not. Nor am I an animal behaviorist. But not only have I read enough FACTS about wolves, but I know some wolf biologists (there is a wolf preserve very close to me). AND I always have documented what I have talked about in this particular board (and others, really)...regarding wolves, Siberian Huskies, Seppala Siberian Sled Dogs, etc. And one thing I'm DEFINITELY sure of...no biology class I EVER had (and I had a few in school over the years) ever mentioned wolves being definitive man eaters or indiscriminant killers. PFF. I wonder what "elementary bio class" Kovu thinks that Aluewolf15 has been missing... Really, I have NO tolerance for bluster passed off as knowledge and experience. I don't care where Kovu works, and what he does there (if his previous assertions about that can even be believed).
Thanks, Starsky!

No! We are the killers! Humans kill many animals. Lets just be happy some are endangered and we can't hunt those breeds!

Nothing make sense with you dose it? That why I stop Rping "two line post got old"
Ok to give little more light to my post, I'm talking about that people say they don't "fear wolves, we are top predators" but let me take you on little walk in my area and see how long you would last. Just you and the world around you, I had lot of fear when it came to wild animals, but then I started to get closer to them. Started with raccoon that came by and move up to coyotes, foxes, wolves and mountain lions. I don't think I'm going to move up the ladder anymore.
Stop with the "Not very smart line" your just like anyone else here. Person at the computer, that all. There all kinds ways you can be smart. I know my word choice and gammera are like 5th grade level here. I put my time into creative and logic.
Here my line "I find animals a better date, than most of you pin heads" I remember I said that in fur group while back, that went well. Power to animals, Respect the life around us that made our dreams come true.
Note: This is what I see every morning, I'm 50 miles away from anything, only thing I got is a computer and the two best canine
I got to move out or I'm going to go crazy, 10 years of this and only go to town once a week. AHAHA I'm selling this house!!!

Erm...that's an odd question...of course wolves are killers, how do you think they eat? Captive wolves who've been released and are used to humans can kill people too...they are predators after all.

Sounds to me like you've got some issues you need to work out. Burdening this forum with them is not the answer.

I'm glad to hear that. Except the part about computers being your life. You live in a beautiful area of the country (from the photo you showed). To honor the message behind the Balto cartoon, you should get out and enjoy and soak up that incredible place you live in.
I get on a lot during the day, while I'm at work. However, at nights I'm out enjoying myself, or home with my dog playing with him and doing stuff. On the weekends, I only get on occasionally. Otherwise, I'm out and about. So should everyone be. Rather than locked in front of a computer so much.
