Fern thought about it for a moment and said, "Thinking that I'll be able to do the same."

Cody smiled and said "I was the same way that you are now but life as a wolf is a lot more than a life as a human though. It's more fun, thrilling, lovable, and everything else. It's a life that most people would love to have after they get over themselves which a lot of us never do. I for instance am not over it yet but sometimes I can feel that pure pleasure in life because I am a wolf."

"That does sound wonderful," Fern admitted, staring down at her hands. "But... but what's going to happen to me?" she asked, the fear clear in her voice.

Cody smiled and said "You will develop wolf instincts that usually manifests itself into another being inside of you but this being is someone who you can trust completely because she will be a part of you and you can trust yourself. You will have a craving for extra rare steak and want to gobble it down wolf-like but you can control how you eat though. Other than that it is a wonderful experience and life. You will have better senses than any human could ever dream of and you will be a lot stronger than any human could ever be. You'll be scared at first but I will be here to help you through your first moon cycle."

"Moon cycles," Fern repeated under her breathe, comtemplating what could be meant by those words. "So, what exactly happens when the moon is full?" she asked, not really knowing if she wanted to know the answer, but realizing that if she didn't ask, she would find out in time anyways.

Cody smiled and said "The first full moon forces you to shift into a wolf for your first time."

"Is that... painful?" Fern asked.

Cody shook his head and said "It doesn't hurt but it feels awful. Your body won't be used to it so it will react weirdly and you might hurt, might not. It just depends upon how willing you are to accept who you are. It was very awful for me and the sensation of my shift kept me knocked out for about a week or two after I was done shifting. It was very brutal for me but you might be different. It just depends upon a lot of things so yes and no. It might hurt, might not, but you 'will' feel weird during and after the shift."

Fern's eyes opened wide when Cody described how awful his first shift was. She looked away, not knowing what to say to that. To her, it sounded like it would be painful. She rubbed her temples to calm the headache that was forming, than said, "And when exactly is this going to happen?"

Cody sighed and said "It's this Friday."

Fern sighed sadly. "That soon," she said, hardly believing that her live would completely change in a few days.

Cody looked down at the ground and said very sadly "I'm sorry that this happened to you, Fern. I should have been in control. I should have been more careful and I wasn't. I'm so sorry. This shouldn't have happened to you and it's all my fault that this happened." He turned to leave and whispered under his breath "I'm such an idiot. You could kill me and this curse will go away. My body would disappear in a wisp of smoke so there wouldn't be any evidence to support anyone's claims that you killed me." He morphed back and jumped out of the window but said right before he jumped out "I'm so sorry that this happened to you of all people."

Fern continued to sit on her bed even after Cody had left. She tried to sort though her thoughts, but there was so much going through her mind at the time that she just laid down instead of trying to think. This was all so new and unbelievable that without Cody there was proof, Fern could have convinced herself that it had all been a crazy dream. But she knew in her heart that it was anything but.

Cody circled the house until he found a good spot to lay down and rest for a while.

Mina sat downstairs with Tommy. "I can't believe you convinced me to leave out little sister alone in that room with that wolf," she said.
