"I'm not sure," Mary said. "Jared, you know?"
"Nope," Jared replied, looking up.

"Police force." said Eiji. "They made it from scratch."

A squirrel on the road caught Mary's attention. The van was heading straight for it, it would soon become roadkill. She lifted it, the small animal squirming and chattering in fear. It's better than being crushed, little squirrel, she thought, when it was safe on the sidewalk.

"Do you three mind if, when we get back to base, we do a scan simular to the one Kuuga's doctor used to monitor his powers?" asked Eiji. "Painless, and in gratitude for their actions, their identites are secret."

"I don't mind," Mary said, the words accompanied by a barely visible shrug of her shoulders.
"I'm fine with it," Jared said.

Jarret nodded. "I don't mind, I want to find out what's going on with me."
Eiji nodded. "Alright, let's head back to the base and get this done."

Soon, a small squeal of tires and a small jerk felt by the passengers marked that they had parked, and the drive was over.
Mary was the first one out, breathing in the fresh air. The air in the van could get slightly stuffy in the back, though in the front it was probably fine. The air-conditioning never seemed to reach her, and breathing in her frist breath of air outside of the van was always slightly refreshing.
Jared followed her, releculantly leaving his gun inside the van. He had grown attached to the weapon, due to the fact he was unable to do any damage himself. The only thing he was good at was self-preservation, a fact he hated. Not that surviving was a bad thing, but it would be nice to be an asset in a fight rather than a weight to be drug along.
"You coming, Jarett?" Mary asked, unknowingly interrupting Jared's wistful thoughts.

Eiji nodded. "Alright, let's head in." he said. "By the way, Mary, would you like to work here?"

Mary was a bit surprised by the offer, but needless to say, she immediatly seized the oppurtunity. "I would love too," she said, a smile forming on her face. "Thank you."

Eiji nodded. "What about you, Jarret?"
"Sorry...I don't really feel like it." said Jarret. "I want to be my own person, you know?"

Mary understood her choice, though it wasn't one she had even considered.

"Alright, let's head in then." said Eiji, leading them in, which made Jarret even more amazed.

"Why so awed?" Jared asked, looking at Jarret.
"I'm awed too, Jared. Working here for a while must have gotten you used to it," Mary said.
