Bashkei couldn't help but laugh at the way Cachen spoke. "well, I hope he gets in trouble, Cachen...but, usually, this kind of thing goes on unrecognized..." his eyes turned to ice, hardening. "Especially if it involves a wolf...Man virtually spits out that name, like we're supposed to be ashamed of who we are."
Katie's eyes widened. "How?!" she asked, standing up, tugging at the chain. "How can Mama stay?!" she wanted to hold onto her Mother for as long as possible, and her body language gave it away.

"Not all humans." said Balto. "There are those who care about wolves." he said, then told of Lena and Tai's owners, who went out of their way to cure the wolves during the second Sirum Run.
"I could make her a guardian angel." said Aniu. "She'd stay with your family, though only visable to pups mostly, if you need her, you'd see her again, like now." she said. "But until your youngest child also dies, she won't be able to return to Heaven."
Lenatei thought about it. "I'll do it." she said. "My family needs me." she said. "So I'll stay."

Suspicion creased the old wolf's face, and he leveled his gaze so he looked in the front of himself. Bashkei had witnessed man's cruelty first hand! His mate, and now his daughter were taken by a human. He could not forgive this. He also could not dismiss the fact Balto was right, as his Mother had always been right. A smirk now creased through the graying fur. "You are just like your Mother...she wanted to give the humans a chance, too." he had to admit though, both Lena and Tai had found the two exceptions he may probably ever hear of in his whole life.
Katie smiled widely, and nuzzled her Mother. "Oh, Mama!" she said softly, her tail wagging back and forth rapidly.

Balto then explained Rosie to Bashkei. "The fact is, there are evil sadistic humans, like this Mako, but just as mankind can cause unbelieveable cruety, they are also capable of great kindness and compassion." he said. "So its a matter of the humans themselves, not the species as a whole." he said. "Are wolves any diffrent?" he asked, then explain how Niju and his cronies had acted. "All species are capable of that horror and strife."
Lenatei nuzzled her daughter back. Suddenly, snow whipped around her and formed into angelic wings on her back, signifing her 'promotion' to Guardian Angel.

"I'll give you that." Bashkei said, smiling ruefully. "It still does not change my mind. And..." he turned his gaze to Balto. "Niju is my nephew, he was a good pup...power can do things to someone. He was very manipulative, as is his sister. But they are blood, and so I don't feel it right for me to judge them." he turned his gaze look at his pups, and to Fang. The pup he found so many years ago, now big and strong. Had he not suffered cruelty first hand? From his Father, of course, at least, that's what Bashkei remembered.
Katie couldn't help but laugh, and looked at her Mother's wings. "Papa always said you were an angel." she giggled gently, so Mako or his dogs would not hear.

"I have been discriminated against by people but not because I'm part wolf, its because I look so much like my dad." said Fang. "But my musher is kindhearted to me." he said. "And he treats me great."
Lenatei looked at her angel wings and smiled. "Well I am now." she said. She wrapped her wings around her daughter to keep her warm. "Comes with being an angel."

Bashkei sighed, exasperated. "Words can be powerful." he said in a low voice. "But it'll take more than words to convince me."
"I think we should lay off for awhile...." Tai said to Fang, looking concerned. "GrandDad will see in time. He lost someone very close to his heart..." she looked both at Fang, then to Balto, pleadingly.
Katie smiled and lay down slowly, giving the odd chuckle at the touch of her mother's wings. "It's just so good to be able to talk again with you, Mama...And actually be able to think!" she grinned softly. The last time Lenatei and Katie had spoken, Katie was only about 6 months old.

"Ok." said Fang. Something then occured to hime, fate tended to work in certain ways. "Bashkei, this might seem odd but what did the person that killed Lenatei look like?" he asked, for some reason it sent a chill up his spine, telling him his hunch was right.
"I'm glad to be able to talk to you as well." said Lenatei, nuzzling her daughter. "Your siblings wished they could've lived with you but they're proud of you, so am I."

Tai looked at Fang, open mouthed. The same chill ran through her, making her fur stand on end.
A deep growl came from Bashkei's throat. "All I remember were his eyes, insane...vicious and cruel...He laughed while my mate died. He seemed to take darkness with him as he moved."
"My siblings?" Katie smiled, she had always wanted brothers and sisters. "What are they like? Are they grown? Are they still little?"

Katie smiled, wagging her tail slowly. She curled up slowly. "so I could pass on really old, and return to this body?" she grinned, her tail a blurring wag.

Fang gulped. "I think...I think its Mako who killed Lenatei because that is Mako's most defining trait." he said. "Which means we've got a bigger problem."
"Yes, that's what would happen." said Lenatei. "I was older than this when I died, I got returned to this young." she said. "Heaven is paradice, but its not the same to everyone, no two people have the same paradice and that's how Heaven is, its got places for everyone that are their own paradice."

Bashkei slowed, and then stopped. Anger surged through him, and he stared at Fang. "you're telling me...the same murderer who killed my mate....now has my daughter?!" his voice was grinding, growling. He was so blind to everything! Why did he have to stay away this long?
"Mama," Katie murmured, snuggling into Lenatei's fur. "My paradise is all of us- me, you, Papa, Kodi, my children....together..." she looked up softly "How will that happen? What was your paradise?"

"Bashkei, if that's true then that's all the more reason to pick up the pace." said Balto. "Mako is a psychopath as it is, let alone the fact he killed your mate, he's still a sadist and dangeriously unstable from what I've heard." he said. "So we have to hurry up."
Mako went out to Mammoth's shed, whistling. He opened the door and put a heavy metal collar around his dog's neck, it'd be heavy to most dogs but it wasn't to Mammoth. "Come, its time for some dog fighting." he said, leading the huge dog towards a dog fighting ring. Mammoth was addicted to the anger enhancing drugs, he loved them so this would be very enjoyable.
"It was with my sons and daughters and being able to watch over my family still on Earth." said Lenatei. "And I'm proud of you my daughter."

Clearing his head, Bashkei nodded. "Right. All the more reason. It'll be dark in a few hours...And in a few days, the sun won't shine at all." he of course referred to the period of time when the moon shined both day and night.
Mammoth's eyes shown with enraged joy, a real sadistic pleasure at killing something. His muscles quivered with anticipation as he was lead to the ring. The gigantic dog could still smell the blood from past fights that sank into the ground.
Katie smiled softly, letting her body relax. She enjoyed her mother's warmth, and missed her terribly. "What are my brothers and sisters like, Mama?" she asked, gently pawing at Lenatei's white fur. She felt so little again, so much like a little pup.
