Cassie's already thumping heart sped up, pounding heavily agaisnt her chest, as Zane's hand touched hers. She glanced down at their hands for hardly even a moment, barely even seeing the sight she looked down at.

Cassie gave Zane a feeble look as his first sentence. She looked at him in confusion at the second part before turning her head around to look at the rose on her dresser. She looked at it a moment before picking it up. She turned back to Zane and opened to her mouth to ask him something before quickly changing her mind and stared at the rose in her hand.

"Yeah, maybe," Cassie said absentmindedly. "Or maybe Curtis," she said with a shrug. "They could finally be getting over Bree." She looked at Zane fleeting, but he was looking away from her so she looked back at the rose.

"Oh, sorry," Cassie said, glacing at the door she had just closed. "Zane's sleeping. I didn't want anybody to disturb him." Her voice said far-off and spacy with all her old worries coming back to mix with the new.
