Sauda shrugged. "Go for a walk y the water-hole?" she suggested.

When they reached, Sauda dipped her head near the surface and lapped the water. She turned to Alonzo. "Want some?" she asked him.

"Okay." Sauda smiled and drank some more. She noticed Alonzo was looking over the land where he once lived. She went over to him. "Hey." she told him. "That is your past life. You have a new family now."

"I think I do." she said. "I've heard about Scar and Zira from my parents. I figure Jeraha is more evil. Don't worry." She pushed her nose up his muzzle and licked his cheek.

Sauda felt a stab of fear pierce her heart as he talked. As the queen, she had been trained not to show her fear, so she pushed it away. "I will be fine." she told him confidently. "It's you I'm worried about."

Sauda closed her eyes and curled her tail with his. "I was raised to expect the unexpected, and to deal with the situation." she said. "I'm not some helpless cub. Don't worry about me."

"Like the Sun Rocks?" she asked. "This way." She lead him to the water-hole and laid down on a rock covered in sunshine. While she and Alonzo warmed their pelts, Sauda could see there was something going through Alonzo's mind. I'm the future queen. she thought. I think I know what Jeraha is like. If he shows up, he'll get the surprise of his life.

Sauda shook her head and cleared her head of Alonzo's worrying. He himself had seen her formidable fighting when they mat as adults for the first time. She searched for a topic to talk about, but then realized that she had been working too hard and needed this time off, just her and her mate. She lay back and let the sun soak its way into her copper-brown fur.
