"Weird," Murmured Setsuko, sounding more like the 13-year-old Rue had met over 20 years ago than her current self. "How dose it work?"

Rue had never really pondered this, and wasn't sure how to answer properly. "Well, there are telephone wires in most places. They send the electricity from one phone into a different one, and I guess somehow sound is also carried through." She shrugged. "I really don't know too much about it...I was never into that kind of stuff."

Setsuko wanted to ask what a wire was, but she held her tongue. "Ohhh...kayyy...." She said instead. Li started squirming around in her arms. "Whatsa matter?" Setsuko mumbled, though she knew he couldn't answer.

Rue could tell that Setsuko didn't exactly understand. It was hard to imagine not knowing what a phone was, but then again, she should be used to that feeling by now.

"They aren't that bad," Tess said, inspecting her thumb just in case.

"Well, not for you," Sumi interjected. "But you are probably used to it, and you have to add the fact that you're much older than Yuumi. When little kids get splinters..." He shuddered. "It's not so bad, no, until they have to be removed. Little kids aren't exactly fans of needles and tweezers."

ooc--Sumi speaks from Nattikat's experience. When I was little and I got splinters, I would totally freak out when my mom brought out the tweezers to remove it.

"Guess so," Tess shrugged, pulling down another thin branch.

Sumi scooped up a bit of the pile. "Let's head back, then," he said gruffly, walking in the direction of the cabin. Kya grabbed some branches as well. Even Yuumi held three or four small ones.

Tess, surprisingly, grabbed the most out of her brother and sister. Maddy grabbed only a lazy few, while Gale grabbed the rest.

"We're back!" called Kya as she entered the cabin. "Oh, good!" said Setsuko glancing around. "Goodness, you guys sure did stock up on wood!" she commented.

Rue took some of the wood from Tess, seeing she was overburdened. "We only need about this much, she said, gesturing to the sticks she held in her arms. "Lay the rest over by that chair," she said.

Kya, Sumi and Yuumi did as Rue said, placing the sticks down. "Now what will we use to light it?" asked Sumi. "We didn't bring any lighter stones."

"All we have to do is rub two rocks together," Rue said, briefly wondering what he meant by lighter stone.

"Well, yeah," agreed Sumi, "But like I said, we don't have the lighter stones...unless you guys have some,"

"Doesn't have to be a lighter stone. It can just be two regular stones," Rue said.

Kuilak looked skeptical. "Whatever. But lighter stones work better!" he insisted.
