Kali found a secluded spot; hidden between two large bushes, yet with tons of spots to look out of. Her senses were on high alert, and she picked up the barely audible sound of conversation.


"David! What are we going to do about tha Specials?" Her worried voice cut through the air, urgency underlying the words.

"But, David! Rumors are going around that they have osme new technology. Something that will let them find us!" A note of fear entered her voice.

"But they were saying that they might have changed the surgery up a little...making the brainwashing even more intense or something." The girl shuddered. It was obvious she was a bitt or a worrier, and she had to confirm with someone in authority nothing bad would happen before believing it herself.


Kali grew still, a cold statue. "Did she say....brainwashing?" she murmured, barely audible to normal ears.

"I was wondering though....do you think that there would be a way to, I don't know, reverse the surgery?" she asked, something sparking in her gaze.


Kali was a grim and comepletely still; she looked as if she were frozen. On the inside, though, she was trembling from the intense emotions roiling through her. Brain-washing? It was obvious they were referring to the Specials....but brain-washing....she shuddered at the thought.

Zane winced, but squeezed Shai's hand back.


Kali stumbled back. They were hidden well enough that her movements wouldn't be noticed, and she needed a minute to recover from the shock of the news.

"No!" Kali hissed; nausea, dread, shock, and even a small bit of fear coursing through her, muddling her thoughts and causing her emotions to become more intense.

"Shai...they were talking about us! The Specials! We've...we've been brain-washed."

While she didn't wish to believe it, some things did make sense. The way her thoughts had changed along with her body; she once thought herself rather average. Now she viewed anyone who wasn't a Special with disdain.

"I doubt it," Kali said, shaking her head. For once, a bit of fear shone in her eyes. She could protect herself from most dangers, but not her own mind. She shivered, wrapping her arms around her chest.
