That next morning, Cheyhaivo and Willow were really close too the fire. Willow was cold out of her mind. She nearly foze. But she didn't. Cheyhaivo woke up Steve for breakfast. Steve fixed up mashed potatoes and gravy. "Eat up." Steve put down bowls for them.

Snowflake was asleep with her pups.Snowflake woke up by frost's whimpers.Snowflake looked at frost."Frost!What happened?"she gasped.Frost had scratches all over her."Rusty was biting and scratching me.."she said.Rusty was awake playing with his brother Chocolate."Rusty!Get over here right now little boy!"Snowflake barked.Rusty walked over to her with his ears flattened."Yes..mother?"he said.Snowflake looked at him angrily."Did you hurt Frost?!"she barked.

That next morning, Steve gathered up Snowflake's pups and went away for about an hour. When the morning after that, all but Steve were woken up by the sound of dogs outside. "Dad!" A female dog yelled out. "Quite down bitch!" A male dog yelled back. Cheyhaivo new how to unlock the door. He didn't tell anybody how he did it. He looked outaide and his daughter, Jenna, being held down by a male dog. "Daddy help!" She barked and whined. "My name is Steele. I love this dog. Whoever's her father and mother can't take her from me!" Steele barked and snarled. Cheyhaivo was pissed at Steele. Willow snarled and started to walk towards him. Cheyhaivo put his leg in front of her and barked. She stayed put. "Get off her you son of a bitch! " Cheyhaivo snarled loudly as he pounced on Steele grabbing his scruff and pulling him down. Steve, who had peeked out his bedroom door, saw the front door open with his dogs gathered around barking and snarling. He put on his coat and got his shotgun. Cheyhaivo lunged for Steele' neck again as Willow barked and leaped towards Steele. She leaped and locked her jaws on his leg. Steele yelped. Steve stepped out jn the living room where outmthe door he saw Jenna laying down whining and Cheyhaivo and Willlw fighting a big dog. Truly, this was a malamute. He loaded his gun and went outside. He aimed for the malamute and shot near his paw. The dogs stopped and Steele shot up and his collar nearly spun around his neck.

Steve took him by the collar and looked at his tags. "Get ***** it. Get out of here!" Steve yelled. He aimed for again and shot directly at his leg. Perfect hit. Steele ran off limping. Jenna was returned to a little girl named Rosie. Were she met Willow and Cheyhaivo. "Hey doggies." Rosie said petting them both on the head. "Jenna!" She said as Jenna came through the door. "She was back at my place, supposedly attacked by a malamute around town. He followed her to my house . I loaded my gun and shot him, he ran off to somewhere. Jenna's fine. By the way, the malamute's name was Steele. If you know anything about him please let me know." Steve left after that and went home where he made more stew for the dogs.

Teslin had to tell Snowflake something very important, before anything can get between them. He didn't know how to say it.... He was so embarrassed about it now, he didn't want to tell her, but he had to. He had to keep his relationship with her completely honest. "Snowflake, There's something I'm really ashamed to say. Keep in mind here that I was younger and crazy about love. I was wandering in the woods, and I saw a white wolf. She was beautiful, Also keep in mind, This was before I met you. She came up to me, and you could tell she was in heat. So, uh... Nature took it's course and we had two little pups. Balto and Limber. I know where Balto is, but no clue on Limber. I hope you don't take this personally... I only wanted to keep things honest between us..." He said, lowering his head and ears shamefully. "Can you still love me, even though this has happened?" He was whining a little as he said those words. He never whined. Now everyone knew how ashamed he was because he actually whined.

Raphael, who just happened to be closeby, lowered his ears respectfully and walked away, giving Teslin and Snowflake some space to talk in private. Raphael then approached Cheyhaivo and Willow, and sat down in front of the two.

"Umm... excuse me if I'm interrupting anything, but..." Raphael said to the two in a polite manner. "...that malamute that was just here, I know him. His name is Steele. He's the top champion sled dog of Nome, and well respected by the humans. But what he really is is nothing but a jerk and a bully. I know Balto as well, he and I became friends since we were both strays, and Steele always tried to track us down and gang up on us with Kaltag Nikki and Star, and he always bullied and made fun of us for several unnecessary reasons. Steele is very mean and very hurtful, and he's nothing but trouble. Not to mention he has a thing for your daughter, Jenna, and when I was still a stray, and even now, I always see him tormenting her inappropriately and bothering her nonstop, 24/7. Steele is a real nuisance, and I'm pretty certain that he'll keep coming back for more, and from personal experience I politely suggest you keep your guard up for that troublemaker."

Cheyhaivo snarled." First off, he gets near my daughter again he'll never see the LIVIN DAYLIGHT EVER AGAIN! " Cheyhaivo snarled louder, not angry at Raphael or anybody else but Steele. "Second, he's not the champion sled dog. I've been the champion for eight years now." Cheyhaivo continued to stare off at some of the blood still on the ground. Sitting down, the other dogs saw the golden collar around his neck. He didn't do anything for about five minutes, he snarled then spoke." No one, nor will any dog, get near my kids."


This was the collar they were giving to the champion dog of the year.

The day finally came where they had to sell their pups. "You ready?" Teslin said to Snowflake. Steve grabbed the pups and sold them each for about $1.25. Teslin was a little upset to see them go. He wanted them to stay just a little longer, but he knew that wouldn't be accepted. A tear shed down his face.

Steve pat Snowflake on the head and opened the door. "Line up." He smiled. All the dogs lined up. Cheyhaivo was the first out. He put Cheyhaivo and Willow as lead dogs, Teslin and Snowflake and the Frontier dogs, Winter and Raphael as the carrier dogs, and Tucker and Lassie as the wheel dogs. "Mush!" Steve yelled and smiled as Cheyhaivo trotted away.

Snowflake started running with the team.She felt free.Snowflake stopped running when they got at the finish line after a while.

(It wasn't a race, I said nothing about a race.)

"Whoa..." Steve said as Cheyhaivo stopped near a building. Steve walked in and returned with a map. Cheyhaivo sighed, "Guys, this isn't a race, we have to do something bigger." Cheyhaivo sat down as Steve studied the map and put it in a well made pouch he attached to the sled.

"I wonder what we'll be doing..." Raphael commented. "If it's big then I guess it must be important."

Steve smiled. "Cheyhaivo, the Canadian Border, now." He smiled again and Cheyhaivo sighed. "Guys, I think we're glin into Canada. " Cheyhaivo barked and started to run the opposite direction.

Raphael ran in his place among the team, feeling the wind blow through his fur. So this is what it feels like... to be a sled dog. Raphael smiled to himself. He couldn't be happier. He wasn't alone anymore. He had a family.
