"I have no clue," Rue said with a small shrug. The dark tunnel was annoying, but her enhanced eyes could somewhat see. "I think I see some more light up ahead, though."

"That's probably not a good thing," Kara replied nervously.

Pascal squinted at the light ahead. "It looks like..." he began, then hesitated in concern. "...some kind of lighted gas."

"What?" Lark asked, but before the words even left his lips, his eyes began to burn.

"We should go a different way," Rue said, taking a step back. She wasn't sure what the gas was, but her eyes were stinging painfully, tearing up quickly. Whatever it was, it wasn't good. "Let's hurry," she advised.

Suddenly, a loud, booming voice exploded down the tunnels. "No turning back." it commanded. "Go through it."

"Are you kidding me?!" Lark roared in reply, even though he knew no one outside would hear.

Pascal rubbed his eyes. "If this is just the first one..." his voice trailed off, staring straight ahead through the glowing gas. "I can't see through it."

"Uh, okay. Do you think we could help blow some of it away with our wing or something?" Rue asked, her wings already beginning to slide to a halfway unfurled position. "'Cause I don't think walking straight through is a good idea," she added warily, eyeing the gas.

Lark unfolded his wings slowly, fearing that the collar might go off, but it didn't. "I guess we're allowed to." he said, shrugging.

"Maybe this a test to study our problem-solving skills or something." Pascal questioned, letting his small wings fall open as well.

Kara moved her wings forward, sending a gust of air through the gas. It began to disperse, much to her relief.

Lark gave a flap with his large wings, some loose feathers flying off and disappearing into the gas, which finally began to dissipate. He coughed, forcing some out of his lungs, but kept sending air forward. The collar wasn't doing anything, so he guessed that as long as you're on the ground, the whitecoats accepted it.

Pascal flapped his wings the best he could, but was only mixing it in with the air. He tried flapping slower, and it seemed to work.

Rue finally let her wings drop as the gas dissipated, her eyes no longer burning quite as fiercly. "I guess its okay to cross now," she said, stepping carefully where the gas had once been. Nothing happened. She stepped further into the room, Kara following warily.

"I wonder where this leads..." Pascal said quietly to Lark as he followed close behind.

Lark said nothing, pulling his wings into a loosely-folded position on his back. He didn't know what awaited them on the other side either, and he wasn't excited to find out.

Probably nothing good, Rue replied silently. They probably all knew that, but saying it out loud wouldn't help anyone. A buzzing noise filled the air as they walked further on, and the air felt like it did during a storm; full of electricity. "Pascal, what was it you said about an electric field?" she asked.

Pascal jumped at the sudden question; he was already feeling skittish after the first test. "Right..." he began, trying to remember. "One of the whitecoats out there were thinking about how one test was an electric field. I don't really know what that means, but I'm pretty sure there's going to be a lot of shocking in our future."

Well, crap, Rue thought. "...I think thats what the next test is." This just keeps getting better and better, she added bitterly in her head, slowing her pace slightly. She didn't want to reach it any sooner than she had to.

"Wonderful." Lark muttered, knowing he was going to have to go through it along with everyone else. "What should we do?"

"...I don't know," Rue admitted regretfully. She hated saying that. "I guess we'll figure it out when we see it."
