Kalgorn couldn't shake the feeling they were being watched. He tried looking behind then in every inconspicious way he could think of, trying to see if someone was tailing them without their pursuer noticing. But his vision had been limited that way.
Deciding to try again, He looked beneath him. Moving his tail to the side, he saw something moving beyong his legs. He lifted his head back up and turned to Balto and asked as quietly as he could, while still being audible; "how much further?"

"We're nearly there, Kalgorn," Balto replied just as quietly, "We'll run into the border guard in a little while."
Jenna walked beside him trying to hide her nervousness. This cat-and-mouse game they were playing was not something she enjoyed at all. She'd much rather be at home with Rosie, or better yet, watching the sun set with Balto on the beach. That was where she'd rather be.
Balto noticed Jenna's anxiety and nuzzled her softly to try to calm her fears.
"Not much further now."

Keso padded along, keeping them in his sight, but moving his paws just as carefully and quietly as ever. His ears were perked as high as they could stand on his head and his nose flared every once and again. He was just about as alert as he could be, though the look in his eyes was almost dull and bored. Despite his good hearing, his ears still were unable to detect the two males' whispers, though it didn't matter much now. They were nearing the borders of Echo's territory and Keso slowed up just a little bit more to keep out of sight and wait for the right moment to cross after them. Surely with the events caused by he and the Hailstorms, Echo would more than likely have upped his security. Balto, Jenna and Kalgorn would probably be escorted in and then he might have a chance to slip across the lines.

Balto stopped as he heard a rustling in the bushes ahead. His ears perked up, and he just barely heard it. The scraping of claws in the dirt. He pawed the earth with his own claws, and a moment later a white wolf padded emerged from the bushes and padded toward them.
"Balto, it's been a long time," he said, leading them further along the river bank, "Aniu's blessing be with you."
"And with you, Echo," Balto replied, "Listen, I know this is short notice, but we think we have a follower. His name is Keso."
Echo's head snapped around.
"Keso?" he whispered angrily, "Why would he be following you?"
"I don't know," Balto admitted.
"I'll double the guard," Echo replied. A brown and tan wolf came into view and moved up beside his leader. "Gunther, call out Milo and Ryder. You're all doing watch tonight."
Gunther nodded and sped off among the trees.
"All this over one wolf?" Jenna said, a bit confused, "Is he really that dangerous?"
Echo turned and said, "There are many things you do not know about him."

Kalgorn was split between both Jenna's and Echo's side. He knew how deadly Keso could be, and yet the guard set up was still impressive. He raised his eyebrows slightly then looked back around. He felt his muscles relaxing. The tension he'd been feeling for the past 10-15 mins finally dropping.
He felt more at ease and safe now. There couldn't be anyway for Keso to get threw that guard. But what if Cale is with him? He felt a brief stab of fear but one look back at the guards got rid of that. Assured they were safe for the time being, Kalgorn followed behind the two dogs.

Keso sneered and listened as Echo called for two more wolves to join the guard. Now three stood in his way instead of one and Echo himself was escorting Balto, Kalgorn and Jenna inside. But a look of cruel pleasure crossed his face. Echo, surely you know me better than that. Only three guards? Maybe if you were there with them it would be more of a challenge. Keso waited until the guards had taken their places, evenly spaced along the border in earshot of each other.
Once Echo and the entourage had made it well enough inside that they wouldn't turn back, he slunk up toward the first guard on the right, as silently as ever. He moved towards him and then pounced, almost cat like, atop him and immediately moved his maw to the throat, ripping as far back as the vocal chords out before the sentry could so much as move. One down.

Balto and Jenna sat with Kalgorn in the common area of Echo's den, a small series of interconnected caves behind the warterfall that fed the river. They had laid in silence for a while, and eventually Jenna had nodded off to sleep again. As she lay on his shoulder, Balto felt himself growing tired and was almost asleep when his ears twitched at a sound from outside.
It almost sounded like paws on snow, but it was over too quickly. Then, he heard it again. A quick, almost inaudible sound like that of a shifting snowbank. He peered out through the fading light to where Gunther, Milor, and Ryder stood watch. At first, he nearly panicked when he couldn't see Ryder on the left, but his fears subsided when the shadow of a wolf rose from the shrubs.
He probably just fell asleep again,Balto thought, curling up beside Jenna and closing his eyes.
....
Near the border, Ryder's eyes closed for the last time as his heart beat slower and slower...and stopped.
OOC: For clarrification, the wolf Balto is seeing is, unfortunately, Keso.

Kalgorn sat with his back to the guards, facing Balto and Jenna. It must have been from the countless yawns the two kept having, but Kalgorn was beginning to feel sleepy as well. His eyes fell from Balto's drowzy face to the sleeping Jenna. Seeing her peacefully asleep, he moved his legs closer together and slid them forward. Falling down into a laying position.
Looking back up at Balto, the look he had on his face made him roll over onto his side. "something wrong Balto?" He couldn't think of anything that could be. They were safe for the time being, and it was probably smart to use this time to its best use by resting. Irrestitable, he felt a yawn come over him. Opening his jaws wide he looked up and yawned.
When he finished, his eyes drooped. He was tired, and sure they were as safe as they could be, Cale and Keso together were a very powerful team. They might just have had the strenght and the skills to take down three wolves easily. True, he was only one wolf, but he felt that Keso was onto his two friends because of him. He didn't know why, but he felt that he had a responsibility to get his friends safely back to their home. So, he was fighting off sleep. Trying to keep alert to anything that went wrong, or as it shouldn't have normally. He started to lay his head down but lifted it back up immediatly. No, that would cause him to fall asleep for sure.

Suddenly, Balto found himself in an all too familiar place. The massacre was happening again, right in front of his eyes. All around him, wolves were screaming, crying out, begging for mercy, and dying. And for the second time, only one wolf was left, surrounded by the wolf-demons. When he rose onto his hind legs, though, Balto thought he saw something familiar about him. He found with some surprise that he could move, and padded toward the circle of demons. Just as he was nearing them, the lone survivor rose onto his hind legs again and beat the circle back, just as one of the demons tore out his throat. "Lesals!" he screamed, "Traitors! Murdereeeeeeeeerrsss!" In that instant, Balto recognized the doomed wolf.
He was looking at himself.

Keso should have been satisfied with only one kill. He should have just slunk on over the lines of Echo's territory. But after that first kill, the euphoria he'd felt had lifted his spirits so! He was back in a crouch like position, about to go after the next wolf in line, but he stopped himself as he caught a faint movement out of the corner of his eye. White. A dark smirk caught on his maw and he thought, 'Cale has had no fun all day. Why not let he and some of the others he's brought take care of the sentries. I'll conserve my energy for the moment.' He then slunk low to the ground, undetected so far, across the borders and kept to the shadows as he tried to make it within earshot of the den.

"Balto?" Kalgorn asked, his right ear standing up at the sound of something behind him. When Balto continued his silence, he decided to leave him alone. He looked busy with his own thoughts. However, whatever that noise had been, he had to know. He couldn't quite place it but it sounded somewhat metallic. . .or like stone on stone. Looking away from the wolf dog, Kalgorn turned his head to the noise. From here, he couldn't tell what it was. He'd have to get closer.
Kalgorn looked back toward the sleeping husky and the only barely awake hybrid. "you stay here with Jenna, im gunna go check something" and with that he stood up, turned, and padded toward the sound. Curiosity was his weakest link.

Jenna's eyes blinked open and she lifted her head slowly. A quickly glance at Balto told her that he was still quite asleep. She laid her head down again, and tried to sleep, but after several minutes she found it impossible. Now wishing she'd never woken up, she decided to go for a quick walk. For a moment, she hesitated, but then she padded out into the cool night air.
It's only for a moment, she assured herself, And after all, we're safe here.

Keso froze where he was in the shadows as first Kalgorn, then Jenna exited the den. He watched them both and then glanced over his shoulder where the two remaining sentries still stood. Cale had not yet made his move. 'Ah, well, soon enough they'll be down.' A third figure had taken Ryder's place now and Keso grinned, then turned back to watch Kalgorn and Jenna. This was becoming ridiculously easy. After all the effort that he'd just put forth, why shouldn't he just go ahead and take Echo's pack now? His bonus for doing so: three extra trouble makers.
Cale had called only five others to come back with him. For the moment, one had slunk off to fill Ryder's position on the line. Cale smirked and then signaled quietly to one of the others. Each picking out their own path, they both crept up to the two remaining sentries. Cale took the middle one, Milor, staying out of sight until he was just below his neck. As soon as he knew the sentry would have to see and hear him, he struck, moving his maw directly upwards towards the throat. If he managed to catch his neck, he would clamp down and rip, much as Keso had done. The other Hailstorm wolf used the same tactic on Gunther, attempting the same feat.

Kalgorn never found out what the noise had been for just under a few seconds after he'd exited, he heard Jenna walk out. He wondered for a second as to how she could be walking when just seconds ago she had been sound asleep. He didn't think much on it however, she was awake. No point wondering how, she just was.
Clearing his throat he turned around to her. "Jenna? Get back inside" and added so he didn't sound rude, "i don't think Echo's territory is as safe as we thought. I just heard something and i just want you and Balto to remain safe." That's the ticket.
He walked back to her and nudged her slightly. Looking at her, urging her to get back inside the den. While it might have seemed like he knew, he honestly had no idea. He only wanted to keep on the safe side. He had no idea that Keso was just mabey 10-15 feet behind him. And by trying to get Jenna back inside the den, he was possibly saving her life by putting his own at risk.

Jenna noticed with some relief that Kalgorn was also up, but was a little put off.
"Kalgorn, we're perfectly safe here. Echo assured us," she said, moving past him and then looking back, "But if it makes you feel better, I'll go back inside in a moment. I just want a few minutes of fresh air."
She stopped and sat down just behind the waterfall, taking in a few deep breaths of the forest air. Had her sense of smell been keener, she might have scented Keso or the six other wolves moving toward the den, but she did not catch even so much as a hint of their presence on the wind. Instead, she sat gazing sleepily into the sky, watching as a few thin gray clouds obscured the moon and darkened the land before her eyes.
Gunther leapt backward in surprise. The scent of his attacker had come to his nostrils all too late to be of use, but he managed to dodge the wolf's first attack. He gave a low growl and lashed out at his attacker, but the wolf skillfully dodged and landed a paw across his eyes. Gunther stumbled back, momentarily blinded, and tried to regain his footing as he shook his head angrily. But this moment of pause was all his attacker needed. Gunther gave a last desperate bark of pain as he felt teeth at his throat.
Milo, however, had not been as lucky as Gunther, and the last thing he saw was a flash of teeth.
Jenna's ears perked up at the sound of a bark from further into the forest. She staggered to her paws and scanned the treeline frantically, and saw the shadow in the middle fall. Milo, she thought. Off to her right, Gunther's shadow was already on the ground. Jenn looked to her left at the shadowy form of Milo.
Why doesn't he do anything? she thought desperately.
Her question was answered when the 'Milo' turned and advanced slowly toward the den with the others. Only a hundred yards or so seperated them from her and the den behind her.
OOC: Sorry if I started controlling your character's Aniu_blade. I kinda got carried away there. ...Wow, that was long.
