Coda sighed, and continued to wait.

Charlotte was beaten, bruised, and bleeding and couldn't even bring herself to her paws. So, she just lay there and let sleep overcome her. She lay there for hours, well into the night.

By the time night came and Charlotte was not there, he became worried and began to follow her tail seeing if she was still there, or just taking forever to find good flowers.

Charlotte was right on her usual trail, laying still, breathing heavily from all her wounds.

Coda went under a set of leaves and jumped seeing Charlotte in the middle of the path, but quickly panicked and ran over to her. "Charlotte?" He asked and hook her a little bit.

Charlotte groaned, her paws twitching slightly, but her body too pained to really move much.

"Charlotte..." he said quietly and nudged her head.

"Are.." she said roughly. "Are...they gone..?" she asked weakly.

Coda wagged his tail when she spoke and laid down next to her. "It's just us," he said and set his head gently on her leg.

She tried to move a bit, closer to him. Her body trembled slightly. She coughed, "They...it was them..again. .." she said weakly.

"The ones from, umm... before?" he asked quietly, knowing he was basically next to her ear.

"The..the wolves.." she answered with a shudder.

Coda licked his cheek, "I'm here right now, and that should matter." he said and smiled. "Come on, I'm going to take you home."

Charlotte's head moved slightly in a nod. She tried to pick herself up, but her shaky legs could barely move.

Coda stood, "Let me do it." he said and stuck his head under her front legs and started to pull her onto his back.
