Tommy sighed and asked "You're having boy troubles then?"

"Yeah, already," Fern said. "It's this new kid at school, and he's just so... different. There's something off about him that I'm not sure I trust."

Tommy smiled and asked "Do you like him Fern? Do you have a crush on this new kid? Is that why his difference is bothering you so much?"

"What? No! Well, oh, I don't know," Fern said with a groan. "He's just different."

Tommy chuckled and said "You've got to figure out your feelings for this new kid Fern because if you don't then it's going to bug you for the rest of your life. Trust me. I know. I made that mistake and I'll never be able to correct it. Go do your homework and think over your feelings carefully and they'll tell you what you need to know about the new kid."

Fern glanced at Tommy with a raised eyebrow and said, "Are big brother's always supposed to sound so wise?"

Tommy looked at Fern lovingly and said "Yes. We are because we've gone through more than our little siblings have and we are exposed to protect our younger siblings from what we went through that was bad Fern. We are our little siblings guardian angels basically and I like to think of myself as yours."

"So what do you think I should do about this guy," Fern asked.

Tommy shrugged and said while walking out of the room and shutting the door "I don't know Fern. Only you do sis."

Fern sighed as she gathered her bag with her books in it and headed up stairs for her room.

Mina came through the front door and dumped her nearly empty bag on the ground. "What's up, Tommy?" she asked as she walked farther into the house.

Tommy smiled at Mina and said "Nothing except Fern might need you. She's having big boy troubles and she needs another girl to help her out with it and the only person who I can see that would actually listen to her is you. So if you would help Fern out then I'll take you out to eat and go see a movie or I guess go shopping if you want to."

"Yeah, shopping isn't exactly thing," Mina said with a roll of her eyes. "But I suppose I should be a good sister and go help the little one out."

Tommy chuckled and said "That's funny. She's not little to you. She's only one year younger than you Minny Me." He smiled mischievously because she always got into a hissy fit, it seemed like, when he said her hateful nickname of hers to her.

"One year's enough," Mina said with a growl in her voice. She throw one of the couch's pillows at her brother. "So where'd she go?"

Tommy blocked the momentum from the throw and said "She went to her room and you better pick the pillow up before mom gets home. She'll be mad that you wrecked her house again when she gets home."
