"We're not leaving you behind Thad!" Shay said determindly. "No way! You can stick it in your pocket or something. Then no one could tell. Or get a prosthetic one," she added. "I think we should wait till dark, then I can try and unlock the cage. I might be able to pick the lock with these," she said, holding up her claws, "And then we can sneak out, like throughh a window or something when the guards are switching out," she finished. "Sound good?"

A rusty voice, deprived of use, interrupted the conversation. Kenya was placed close to the small group of new hybrids; she had been eavesdropping for a while, her interest and hope sparked. "I've been here for what feels like years...months, at least. I know when the best time to beak out will be. I can help you...all I ask is to come. I've endured this for a ....long time. I can't much longer." At first, it wasn't apparent as to what animal she was; then her grimy wings flared slightly, the feathers quivering with anticipation. Only then was her angular face and amber, hawk-like eyes prominent.
Shay couldn't help being sympathetic to the winged girl. "You can come with us," she said, dipping her head. "I'm Shay."
"Kenya," she replied, a grating cough making her hunch over, grimacing.
