What's the big difference between Blu-Ray and HD DVD :?: And before you ask, yes I did sign the petition.

To my extent in knowing, Blu-Ray has more space than HD-DVD. They both offer uncompressed audio (if they ever do offer 'cause some titles sadly don't have them..). I'm sure that they both offer the same HD resolution otherwise there's a little difference in some areas. What do I know...so far Blu-Ray is by surprise...winning :) But I wish they can call it a DVD soon in the future for Blu-Ray..

the trouble of creating a whole new DVD just for us?

The thing is : it wouldn't be JUST FOR US. It would be both a new release for the film (so that the people who didn't have it yet may buy it because they didn't have the previous dvd or couldn't find it), with a more attractive cover (which shouldn't be difficult...), and good picture quality (16/9 at least!) with extras would give a much better image of the film.
Do Universal realize that giving a cheap dvd for a film only makes it looks like a "sub-film"? when it's truly not? If they have long-term plans, they would have make some efforts with it...

by making a remastered Blu-Ray

I already said it, but : you're not going to see any HD DVD (or Blu-Ray) of Balto before a VERY long time. It's currently a niche market, and does certainly not fit "family" films.
If they do one (near 2012 maybe?), and if they don't change their mind on the Balto franchise, it will be the same content as the Balto dvd refitted to a HD DVD disc.

I totally agree i dont think there going to make a HD DVD but i think they will make a BLU-RAY like in a cople of years time, I wonder if they would do a Balto film in 2012 nad base it on Balto doing like oylimpic dog stuff you no what i mean?

A lot of Disney films like Ratatouille or Cars has been put on Bluray/HD, they're family films.

Anyways, I already have the original dvd, and I know my parents wouldn't let me get 2 dvd's of one film (they do not believe in the "special edition" thingy), so I didn't sign.

Yes, but the ones who buy them aren't children, but adults who like them. And Disney know it very well. Plus, it's much more easier to put a 3D film in high definition. The picture quality of the traditional animated film will not increase that much in high definition, compared to the 3D ones (especially because the 3D ones are recent)

So you don't want anyone to have a special edition DVD only because your parents wouldn't let YOU buy it? Frankly, it's very egoistic.

Same thing...

I never said that I wanted to prevent anyone from getting a Balto Special Edition, I just said that I didn't sign because it would not have any use for me.

If it was on Blu-Ray, it'd already be a special edition, fitting all the content into one disc so...who knows just sign it. Like I said considering the generation we're in now, a special edition might just bang up into a Blu-Ray/HD-dvd/2-disc DVDs. But whatever I don't even know when we're gonna see an 'actual' re-release of this film.

I would be glad to support a petition or something to convince Universal to make a special edition DVD for Balto. They should look at Disney's succes
