Martha kept looking at Captain, waiting for response.
"No," said Tracy. "He wanted to keep us there till the day we died."

"That is really very mean of him," Mutt said.

"I just wanted to know why you're so quiet," said Martha.
"He sounds nasty!" yelled Amy.
"He is, a really mean," said Tracy. "Hope you don't have to meet him."

"I just don't have anything to say right now," Captain replied.
"But if we do, I'll rip him to shreds before he can hurt anyone," Mutt announced, baring his small puppy teeth and growling a high-pitched snarl.

Martha nodded. "Well...are you ok?"
Tracy smiled. "You're a brave pup, huh?"

"Of course I'm fine," Captain said. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"I try to be," Mutt said with a proud smile.

"You're being real quiet," said Martha. "Just making sure everything is ok."
Tracy nodded. "You're cute too," she said, then smiled to Amy. "So are you."
Amy blushed. "Thanks, you're pretty!"

"Yep, I'm fine," Captain said with a shrug.
"Thanks," Mutt mumbled with a slight blush.

Martha nodded. "Alright...so did you guys just find each other and decide to stay together?"
Michael looked at the puppies. "So, is it fun here with Sally?"

"Basically, long story short, that is what happened," Captain said. "Of course, I don't remember exactly how we all met up, but I know that it was the best part of my life."
"Yes! It is very fun," Mutt said with joy and excitement. "It is much better to be living here with Sally, Amy, and Captain than on the streets all by myself."

Martha nodded. "Having friends is always good...I don't think most of us would've survived Adrian's circus if we didn't have each other."
Amy nodded. "Yeah, and its much better to be here than alone in the woods!"
Tracy nodded. Though she was sad little puppies had gone through what they had in the first place. "Well I bet it is," she said. "You protect each other, right?"

"Yeah, I don't know what I would do without Sally and the pups," Captain agreed.
"Of course," Mutt said as if not protecting each other was the craziest idea ever. "We're best frienda s after all."

Martha nodded, then looked sad. "I feel bad for the pups...they really got abandoned like that?"
"Sally protects us a lot," said Amy. "Most animals won't tangle with skunks."
Tracy chuckled. "I know I wouldn't," she said. "I know they're not stinky, but that musk of theirs smells awful."

"Yeah, we've all been abondoned in one way or another," Captain said.
Mutt nodded his head in agreement before breaking out a wide yawn.
Sadie noticed the pup's tired state and said, "It is starting to get late. Perhaps we all should get a good night's rest for the journey tomorrow."

"I know...but they're just babies..." said Martha, her heart hruting for the poor things.
Sally came over and nodded. "Alright, pups, time for bed."
"Aww! but I don't want to!" said Amy, yawning widely but being a child and not wanting to go to bed yet.
