Kate nodded. "Thank you both for coming to tell me, Humphrey might've got hurt even worse if you hadn't."

--------------------

Garth nodded. "...Should we go talk to Kate and Humphrey about what we sensed out there?"

"Huh?" Humphrey looked at the pups. "You two told Kate?" he asked in shock.

"Aurora and me saw those two bullies hurting you, we had to come tell Kate!" Tobias said.

*********

Lilly nodded. "It could be dangerous, we need to tell."

Kate nodded. "Yeah, these two are life savers," she said, giving both a light nuzzle.

---------------

"Yeah..." said Garth. "You might really have seen something, who knows."

Humphrey smiled, lightly nuzzling both pups. "Wow, aren't I lucky? Thanks, you two." he said.

Tobias smiled, nuzzling back toward both adults.

***********

"I doubt it. But it could be a bear, I'd rather not take the chance it could hurt someone." Lilly said seriously, looking nervous.

Aurora blushed. "We were just doing the right thing."

"And you're very good puppies for doing that," said Kate, smiling.

--------------------

Garth nodded. "Yeah, let's go tell them."

"Most pups would be scared to come and say something." Humphrey said, happy.

"... I was, but Aurora wasn't going to just let it happen." Tobias said shyly.

*********

Lilly looked about one last time, before heading for her sister's den.

In the nearby brush, Yana was laying down, trying to forget about the hunger gnawing at her. She was irritable because of her empty belly. She snapped a branch underpaw. "Grah! First we don't eat what we kill, now there's a bear or something around?!"

Kate gave each pup a small nuzzle. "Well you're both brave. After all, being brave means doing the things you're afraid of."

----------------------

"What do you think it was?" asked Garth, leading the way.

----------------------

"It'd explain why there's less prey around here," said Blaze. "A big predator like that would eat a lot."

Tobias blushed more, his tail wagging a mile a minute. "As long as we helped, I'm happy."

***********

Lilly shivered at the memory of that eye. "I don't know. But it's probably a bear or something."

***********

Yana growled, slashing at a nearby tree. "Agh! First Kate, now a bear is making our jobs even more stressful!"

Aurora nodded. She then pounced on Tobias, wanting to play.

---------------------

Garth nodded. "I hope so," he said, as they approached the den.

---------------------

"I can't think of how this could get any worse," said Blaze, mad.

Tobias laughed, beginning to roll over and over with aurora, trying to get the upperpaw.

"See? Now that never grew out of me." Humphrey said, laughing lightly.

***********

Lilly had to gulp at that, ears lowering as they approached the den.

**********

Yana sighed and fixed her fur, looking irritated. "All my fur could turn a really dingy color, and no matter much I tried, it wouldnt look good. You could lose all your muscle tone." she said off handedly, running a paw through her head fur.

Kate nodded, giggling as the pups played. She then sniffed the air. "I smell my sister and Garth coming."

--------------------

"Who should go in first?" asked Garth. "It is your sister but if you don't want to, I can."

-------------------

Blaze nodded. "I'd sooner hunt a skunk than that."

"Here, let me make myself look pathetic." Humphrey joked, laying down, looking half dead. He snickered.

*********

"I'll... I'll go in first." Lilly said, moving past her mate and poking her head into the den. "Kate?"

*********

Yana nodded. "same here. I could never make a dingy coat work for me!" she said pitifully, frowning.

Kate rolled her eyes with a chuckle at Humphrey. "Come on in sis."

-----------------------

"But what can we do?" asked Blaze.

Kira watched from nearby, smirking. She took a bit of prey she'd killed and tore it open to spill blood so they'd smell it before she fled into the woods.

Lilly nodded and came in. "Kate, we have something to tell you. It's serious."

"Garth, your cue." Humphrey joked, picking his head up.

**********

"hush up a second." Yana said seriously, nose to the wind. "I smell blood, fresh."

Garth came in after. "Feeling ok, Humphry?" he asked, concerned.

----------------

Blaze nodded, smelling it. "Let's go check."
