Rue ran faster, her tail streaming out behind her. Please hang on Nook, just hang on,she pleaded with him silently.

Darryl bursted through the doors with Nook in his arms, yelling for Doctor Drinstein.

The doctor entered and put on his glasses, looking at the motionless creature in Darryl's arms. "This one needs emergency medical attention." he said, his voice smooth, but with an antique-like sound to it. He narrowed his eyes as he inspected Nook's charred paws. "He may need a bit of surgery, but mostly casts and bandages." Then, he pushed his glasses into place and said suspiciously, "Are you two back there with the Force?"

Vetch shook his head.

"Good." finished Drinstein as he took Nook into the back room and then came back out without Nook. "He'll be fine in about an hour."

"How is that possible?" asked a confused Vetch.

"Maybe you're not from around here." said Drinstein, the ancient, tan wolfish creature."This world has a device called a Xephyrexor. It replaces old, damaged organs or fur with new particles that are cloned from the wounded creature. Perhaps your world that you come from has not reached this year yet."

Ooc:// How long did it take you to come up with the name 'Xephyrexor"??? Lol. I had to copy and paste this to get it right!

"NO, we haven't," Rue said, releived that Nook woud be alright, and awed about the sound of...whatever he had said.

Ooc:// I was originally gonna call it the 'Xephyre', but added 'exor' at the end to make it sound like a machine. I'm wierd, I dunno XD

The doctor looked at his watch. "Oh! Maybe the Xephyrexor finished early! I'll go get him now." He dispappeared into the other room.

When the doctor was gone, Vetch looked at Rue. "This is probably my fault. If I didn't tempt him to jump, he wouldn't be here."

Vetch took in a deep breath and replied, "Rue, I-"

But was interrupted when Dr. Drinstein came back out, a solemn expression on his droopy old face. "I'm afraid you friend will be left with some permanent... disabilities, if you will. He's suffered severe burns and broken body parts, so I'm afraid he will never fully recover. But he will improve!"

Rue felt hollow inside again, only a deep sadness that hurt so much it actually was like someone bruised her heart resided. "What do you mean...when you say....disabilities?" she asked, her voice hoarse and soft. "I need to see him," she said, her eyes sad and slightly panicked.

The doctor stopped her and said, "When I say disabilities, I mean-"

He was interrupted when the nurse brought Nook back out, but he wasn't the same. First of all, he wasn't energetic and bouncy. But most of all, his front, left leg was gone.

Dr. Drinstein stopped talking and looked at his feet. "...He'll only have three legs. He cannot run, jump, or walk up stairs. I'm very sorry, but we did all we could."

Vetch looked upon his friend, almost brother. His leg was completely gone. It's like it wasn't even there.

Nook's eyes seemed... broken. They weren't like the old Nook, energetic and playful. Ready for anything. Now they were afraid and dim. He said with a rasp, "Hey, guys." It wasn't like the usual, 'Hey, guys!!' but more like a, '...Hey...guys...' He was no longer the Nook he always was.
