Katie turned around to face him. "Why in the world would I want to stay on a pirate?" she asked plainly, not thinking about how much that could hurt.

"Woo-hoo!!" Dev cheered as he walked into James cabin, clapping his hands in applause. "Awesome performance brother! totally awesome!" he said. "You did great! Katie looked so happ-" his sentance cut short when he saw Jame's crumpled figure slumped against the bed. "James!" Dev exclaimed and slammed the cabin door. "James whats wrong?" Dev asked, kneeling beside his brother, he'd never seen his hero like this.

Dev whinced, he hated seeing James like this, he never had before but he already hated it. "I'm gonna go talk to her, okay! Don't worry i'm not gonna say anything about..." he swallowed "...this..." he finished and got up. "You got it James..." he said quietly as he walked out the door. Normally it would be the other way around! James comforting him!

Katie looked around herself guiltily as James walked away. She turned and walked the other way, evetually resting against the egde of the ship and looking out over the waters. Being on a pirate ship wan't bad at all. But she was here as a lady, a guest. She wasn't a pirate and knew things would change if she was.

"Katie?" Dev called, walking around the ship. "Katie!" he called again and spotted her. "There you are!" he said walking up next to her. "So Jame's ins't so bad right?" he asked and leanded down against the railing of the ship, propping himself up with his elbows. He gazed out over the water and was silent to let Katie speak.

Dev said nothing for an awkward moment, he just stared out at the ocean, trying to pick his next words carefully. "James...never gets truely beat up or emotional about things...I know...he tells me everything and this has never happened before..." Dev said, now looking at his own hands, not wanting to meet Katie's gaze. "James is my hero..." he admitted and whinced slightly, he'd never told anyone that. "And i've never seen him like this before...and I hate it..."

Katie chewed her lip as Dev spoke. "I haven't done anything to him," she said simply, trying not to feel the guilt that was slowly slipping into her chest and sinking like a rock in her stomach,.

Alex walked out of her bunk, where she had gone after ignoring James's response. She noted Dev and Katie and hesitated, wondering if she should go to them but stopped, watchign scuriously instead.

"I know you didn't do anything...not on purpose...James looks at things so deeply it scares me sometimes..." Dev said, clenching his fists. "Can you just do me one favor?" Dev asked, stealing a glance at Katie. "We don't make port for awhile so...can you just pretend that you like it here...for James' sake? I know thats asking alot and I'm sorry if you truley hate it here but James didn't mean to hurt you..." Dev swallowed, biting his lip, noticing the large lump in his throat.

Katie looked at Dev when he did. She held his gaze for a few moments after he head stopped talking. Finally, she took a breath to say something. "James can't hurt me," she said simply, turning away from Dev and walking away from him.

"D*amn*t!" Dev hissed as he pounded his clenched fist against the railing. He felt fresh hot tears roll down his cheeks and he whiped them away frantically and turned around to race after Katie. "Katie wait!" he said, stopping short so he didn't have to face her. "Is that it then? You're not gonna do anything?" Dev asked, narrowing his eyes so she couldn't see that some tears had escaped.
