Balto gasped. "Oh no." he said. Tears started down his face, Rico was just a kit and Athina was the thing Flash loved more than anything in the world. "Flash...I'm so sorry." he said, nuzzling his friend to comfort him. "I'm so sorry." he said.
Nickie and Star came up. They looked at Kaltag. "Kaltag, don't tell him but one of those dogs, was Steele father, he's got rabies." he whispered in Kaltag's ear. Steele's father was one of the worst dogs in Alaska, he was so terrible even Steele hated him. "We need to warn Steele." he whispered, knowing Steele's father might try to infect him.
Star whispered the same thing in Balto's ear.

Kaltag nodded. He was the second smartest of the group but was good at giving orders. "Go tell Steele" Kaltag whispered to Nikki.
Flash started to bawl as the shock still hung him around his neck.

"I'm here to help you, don't ask me why." said Balto. "You're dad is back in town, he just tore Flash's son and mate to pieces and he's got rabies." he asked. "I know we hate each other but I respect you somewhat so until he's killed by humans or dies of the rabies I want a truce, I'll watch your back, you watch mine, and if there is any reputation to be gained, you get it all."

"Deal." said Balto. "Now I suggest we all get to our homes and where its safe." he said. He ran home. "Jenna! Nica! Come to the boat! Somethings come up! We need to stay inside!" he said.

"Ok Balto" Jenna called. She picked up Nica and raced to the boat.
"Lets hide in my house, that place is unseen and hard to find when you don't know its there" flash said. He grabbed Nica and a tear fell down his cheek.

Balto nodded and went down to their place. He pushed a big ppiece of old wood over the entrence once everyone was in so it looked like the wall was unbroken. He looked to Flash. "She needs to know." he whispered in his ear, refering to Nica. He went to Jenna. "I know you'll want to go home but its too dangerious to try alone, a rabid dog will kill anyone he sees."

"What about mama and Rico?" Nica asked as she looked around the group.
Flash nodded. A tear fell from his cheek. "Nica, they won't be coming back. The Rabid dog and a couple of others killed them both." It was hard to say but he had to tell her.
Nica didn't let the shock get to her. She started to bawl. She curled up next to her dad and cried.
"Let us pray for the lost mate, mother, son, and brother." Jenna suggested as she bowed her head into the middle of the group.

Nica had stopped crying and bowed her head in the middle with the others.

Balto hugged Nica with his front paws. "I'm so sorry but I know how you feel." he said. "I lost my parents when I was about your age." he said. "At least you didn't have to see him die." Another gun shot, another yelp.
