Well, if you just add it in as an "external link", then that's what'll happen! Try and find a loophole. Example: Put something about the demand for a special edition in the article. Use the petition as a reference.

I find some Wikipedia choices to be very stupid, including things like "you can't post petitions" (while this would be very much related to the article), "you can't make articles about sites" (I don't really see where the problem lies with this, not that I would make one but I know some of you made one about this site)
Also I don't think it's really fair or even objective that the first external link on Wikipedia's Balto film page is IMDB. I mean, which is the most accurate and has the most content, the little IMDB page on Balto or this site?

...yes, and I also don't think it's fair that Wikipedia articles come number one on many Google searches (including "Balto" of course), many websites complain about this. Only because a site is famous does not mean that its content on ONE topic is accurate. Same for IMDB, which gets very good ranking while it's certainly not the best site for most movies.
BTW, if you want to help, check this topic  :

You CAN post petitions guys. You can't just go, "Here, sign this petition!" That really is spam. As mentioned before, it needs to be used as a reference or be significant to the article.

Look at reference [33] within the article. It's a petition.

Well I signed it long ago..I'm surprised to see that more people are constantly signing it. How will Universal look at this? Did someone send them this link?

And ugh I was hoping a DVD release by now..would be like one said here, a true wonder - especially for this season. I remember first seeing this on TV nine years ago and bought it on VHS (which I still have) 2 years later from that point. And now ugh..

Say I saw the Triple DVD pack with the American Tail, The Land Before Time and Balto. It's SO SAD it's still in FULLSCREEN FORMAT but with a cheap price tag, I might buy it but should I? Is the 5.1 surround properly done with grand bass and stuff? Is the picture quality that bad? I can't stand fullscreen but I've seen the movie in fullscreen so much (in fact, that's the only format I've seen it in)...UGH so angry it's not in widescreen...

If you want to see it in widescreen, you can get the Brazilian DVD (which works in Region 1 players). It also has the documentary too.

It's good quality with more detail than the VHS. But it's a little grainy.

Though I absolutely love the idea of the petition, I'm starting to get a little worried. It's been out for a long time, and we're only half-way to reaching our goal. It'll take even longer for us to get the other half because many of the people who wanted to sign it, already have. I hope to god that when we get the 2,000 signatures, universal will actually take it seriously. Does anyone think that they will go through the trouble of creating a whole new DVD just for us? Even though there is already one out there?

Whoa halfway? That's actually not pretty bad but darn making the other half in this span of time I don't know..I signed this like early December or late November...but yeah they can always 'cheat' in by making a remastered DVD/Blu-Ray < - - considering that not only I have a PS3 but darn it suits this generation. HD DVD also I guess.

Even though there is already one out there, they will have to state in their TV spot ads or whatever ad and spark out the REMASTERED and yaddiyada...

The thing is : it wouldn't be JUST FOR US. It would be both a new release for the film (so that the people who didn't have it yet may buy it because they didn't have the previous dvd or couldn't find it), with a more attractive cover (which shouldn't be difficult...), and good picture quality (16/9 at least!) with extras would give a much better image of the film.
Do Universal realize that giving a cheap dvd for a film only makes it looks like a "sub-film"? when it's truly not? If they have long-term plans, they would have make some efforts with it...

I already said it, but : you're not going to see any HD DVD (or Blu-Ray) of Balto before a VERY long time. It's currently a niche market, and does certainly not fit "family" films.
If they do one (near 2012 maybe?), and if they don't change their mind on the Balto franchise, it will be the same content as the Balto dvd refitted to a HD DVD disc.
