"Yes," Kali said. Her embarrassment still remained, but was less apparent.

"So, when do we get to meet him?" Tally asked.

A wolf, slightly resembling Kali, walked into the clearing then. "Kali?" he asked, amber eyes opening in pleasure.

Ranger marveled at the beauty of the wolf alpha, seeing the resemblance to Kali. Staying silent, he let Kali do all the talking.

"Hello Fen," she greeted, licking him lightly.

"Who are they?" Fen asked, cocking his head.

"This is Tally, Ranger, Tucker, Dakota, and Charles," she said, poiting her tail at each one in turn. Her brother nodded his head in greeting. "WE've come to ask you for direction."

Ranger spoke up before Fen had a chance to reply.
"We know about how the world is about to end. We need to know how to get to a giant red hole in the earth humans call The Grand Canyon. Can you please help us?"

Fen's eyes lit up in recognition. "Of course," he said.

"Thank you," Kali said, giving her brother s small touch with her nose.

Ranger was stunned speechless for a few moments, until he was able to smile happily.
"That....That's fantastic! So, if this end of the world thing actually happens, you will take us there?"

Fen nodded his head once again. "Yes, I will." He felt responsible for Kali, so at some length, her friends, making him willing and glad to help.

Kali noted it was beginning to turn dark, and faint dots of light were laready appearing. "We better go back guys," she said.

"You won't make it back before night sets in," Fen pointed out. "You're welcome to spend the night at our camp."

"Thank you," Tally said, blinking.

Ranger shook his head.
"You must remember, Fen. Some of us still have people we need to look after. If I'm not back by them, they will begin worrying. End of the world or not, I can't let them be concerned about me."

Tucker nodded, agreeing with what Ranger said.
"And I need to go back and get Roscoe and Dodge. They may be jerks to you guys, but I can't go along with leaving them behind."

Ranger gestured back the way they came.
"I'm going, and I suggest everyone else follow. Will give us a chance to maybe get some food together. I don't know how we'll carry it, but I don't think hunting will be an option if it only gets worse from here"

Fen nodded, understanding. "See you Kali," he said.

Kali smiled at her half-brother. "See ya'," she said.

December 21, 2012

Several days had past since the dogs had arrived back into town after visiting Fen. Ranger had planned that they would leave later that day to go back to Fen, and he and Charles had a small stash of food they had collected ready and waiting in a ratty old backpack Tucker had found awhile ago. The day was sunny, and despite the month, was a temperature of 75º.

Ranger looked up at the sun, wiping sweat from his eyes. He had his winter coat fully grown in, and the warm temperatures were making it very uncomfortable for him. He sighed wearily as he met up with Tucker outside of his peoples' home.

"Boy, if it gets much hotter, I'm going to have to find my groomer before we go to get a fur cut."

Tucker laughed.
"hahaha! I couldn't see you with shaved fur, could you, because I couldn't. It is hot for this time of year, though, huh?"

Ranger ignored tucker's question, voicing his concern to him in a saddened tone.
"I'm going to feel terrible leaving my people like this, Tuck. If what Ira, Roscoe, and...everyone says is true...It's gonna be a terrible way to go."

Tucker shook his head, trying as hard as he could to be serious.
"You can't keep thinking this, Ranger, or you'll be gone, too. I know it's hard to accept that we are being selfish by trying to survive, but...what else can we do right now if we don't want to die?"

Ranger shrugged.
"To tell the truth, I don't even think we'll make it to the Grand Canyon. We'll try definitely, but you know that it's going to be tricky."

Tally padded up then, Dakota and Kali deep in conversation behind her. "Hey guys," she said, flashin a small smile. Despite what lay ahead, she couldn't help being happy. THe sun warmed her thin coat, making her feel slightly drowsy. She was with all of her friends, well, maybe not all of them.

"Where's CHarles? Is he coming?" Dakota asked. He was close friends with the small fox terrier, and didn't wish to leave him behind.

Ranger nodded, showing a slight smile.
"He's coming. I sent that rogue to go get Roscoe and Dodge. Tucker talked them into coming with us, but didn't know where they were, so Charles went after them."

Right on cue, Charles padded up with the two doberman police dogs in tow. Seeing Dakota, he ran up to him and greeted him.

Roscoe scoffed and shook his head.
"Stop all this mushy, gushy stuff. We leaving or not?"

Tally, being rather bold, shot the muscular doberman a glare.

Dakota smiled at his friend, short tail wagging as much as was possible.

Ranger nodded lightly.
"If everyone is ready to go, let's get the bag of food and get moving. The sooner we're out of here, the better."

Tally nodded. "I'll help carry the food," she said, daring anyone to disagree with a glance. She was the type who wished to do things by herself, and hated to be disagreed with.
