I hope not, I really was liking this rp. It was nicely thought out.... It'll make me sad if it dies.

No, I hope this rp isn't dead!
(I can't believe I nearly forgot about my own rp!  )

Suddenly, Balto found himself walking among wolves whom he had never known. Yet while he studied them, they paid him no mind. Even when he walked right up to a pair of chatting females, the two continued to talk and laugh as though he wasn't even there.

All at once, the air was filled with bellows of hatred and screams of agony as the wolves were mauled and massacred by shadowy figures in the shape of wolves.
Though his mind screamed at him to intervene, to stop this madness, Balto found himself riveted to the spot, as though held by an unworldly being, and forced to watch as the shadowy wolves eliminated all but one. The last wolf, a strong, young male, was surrounded by the shadowy demons. Twice the circle closed around him and twice he sent them realing back. On the third time, though, on of the demons succeeded in tearing away more than half the young male's throat.
His eyes wide with hatred and redder than his blood, he reared back on his hind legs and screamed,
"Lesals! Traitors! Murdereeeeeeeeeeers!"
Just then, Balto fancied that his heard his name being called.
"Baltoooooo. Baltoooo."
Balto twitched. He knew that voice.
"Jenna?" he whispered.

"Balto, wake up," Jenna repeated, placing a paw on his shoulder. Balto woke with a start and found himself covered in a cold sweat. Jenna stood beside him, looking very worried. "It's alright," she said, "You were dreaming."
"Some dream," Balto replied, shaking visibly. Jenna lay down in front of him.
"Tell me."

(Hehe, it's ok. I think we all forgot about it for a bit there. The important thing is we came back. )

Keso rolled himself onto his paws and stood upon the fresh powdery ground as though he'd not fallen asleep that night. She shook his body, the hair folicles that made up his pelt flinging the new snow away angrily and then lifted his nares to the morning breeze, inhaling deeply. He turned to the east and watched as the sun, a deep shade of red, climbed wearily over the horizon. 'Just as I thought,' he mused to himself, then twisted just enough to make the joints along his neck and spine pop and crack loudly.

"CALE!"

The brute shouted for his beta and then returned to his seat upon the white ground beneath his paws. It may have just been dawn, but already he felt the need to be on the move, felt that they were burning daylight and wasting a perfect chance, for something. He awaited his beta just a little longer, eyes narrowed as he watched the pack's usual morning routine of sparring, gossip and feasting on what was left from the last hunt.

Jenna sat back in shock.
Balto had expected this. His dream had been horrifying to say the least.
"And you said you didn't know any of the...um, victims?" asked Jenna timidly.
"I didn't recognize a single one," Balto replied, "but every time one of them fell I felt as though a part of me was torn out." He shuddered as he rememberd the feeling.
The two sat in silence for a long while.
Finally, Balto stood up.
"I'm going to take a walk to try and clear my head."
"I'll come with you," Jenna replied.

(I've been told to tell you guys that Dragonchild, who plays Cale, can't get on the computer for a while as it has been confiscated by his parents. He has therefore given me permission to take control of his character for him and will resume control when he is able to get to a computer and post and such. So, I'll take control of Cale in my next post.)

Keso sat where he was, unmoving for the most part as Cale trotted up to him from the pile of meat he'd been filling his face at. His maw was covered in the crimson blood of a doe, drops of it falling from the hairs to stain the milky white snow covered ground beneath him as he neared Keso and then sat before his alpha.

"Yes sir, you wished to speak with me I presume?"

"Yes, Cale. Rally the pack and lead them through the morning physical training. I need to speak with our associate in Nome. I'll be back here before the sun touches the top of the mountains," Keso's normal gruff tones informed the beta before the alpha stood and loped off into the trees towards the spot where he had met Nexus the previous night.

Speaking of Nexus, he too was up and about this morning, watching the red sun begin it's journey across the sky. He sighed deeply, knowing that he would be better off just finding some puddle of mud and drowning himself in it than he would be helping Keso with his cruel acts. But what choice did he really have? He knew Keso's power and that the dark wolf never bluffed.

He simply sighed once more as he began trotting along the streets of Nome, avoiding the glare of the townspeople. He had no master and was considered more or less what Balto had been before he returned with the medicine and virtually rescued the town. Most of the dogs were kind to him, but even so, to the humans he was just a mutt with no real purpose for living.

All these thoughts swirled about his head as he moved forward until suddenly he was in front of the boiler room as the door stood ajar. He poked his head inside to find Jenna and Balto talking and stopped mid-step, beginning to start back out.

"Oh, I thought it was empty in here. I uh...I'd better go."

"No, it's alright," Balto insisted, "We were just leaving anyway."
He and Jenna got to their paws and walked out of the boiler room.
"It's nice to see you again, Nexus," Jenna said, flashing the husky a smile.
...
A short while later, Balto and Jenna padded slowly among the snow-filled trees in the forest north of Nome. New snow fell silently down all around them, not a sound could be heard. It was as though the entire forest had mutually agreed to a day of peace and calm.
Jenna lay down beneath the sheltering branches of an evergreen, shaking the snow from her brick-red coat. Balto joined her, and they looked out at the wintery wonderland.
"It's nice to get out of Nome," Balto commented.
"As long as I'm with you, I don't care where we are," Jenna replied, nuzzling him. As she leaned back, Balto caught sight of a glimmer in her eye that he'd never seen before. "Balto," she whispered, "would you..." She stopped, slightly embarassed, but Balto caught her meaning.
They began to cuddle.

The forest maintained it's silent vigel.

Nexus nodded slowly to both Jenna and Balto as they exited the boiler room and said in a quiet voice, "It's nice to see you as well." Inside the mutt cursed himself for making the agreement with Keso in the first place, and the smile on Jenna's face only served to fill his head with more guilt than he'd previously had. Once the two had gone off on their way to the forest, Nexus sighed to himself and began his own little walk off to the spot where he and Keso had met the previous day. He found the dark wolf awaiting him and began to shake inside.

"What news from Nome do you carry with you today Nexus? Was there a lead just juicy enough to allow you to be late?" Keso's gruff voice spat out, impatience seething from his being.

Nexus winced at the harsh tones from the wolf and then said quietly, "I applogize for my lateness, Keso. It will not happen again unless there is due cause for such a thing. I regret to report that I have found no new information for you and your followers to use, save what you must have already inferred from your first meeting with Balto." At this statement he saw the anger in Keso flare up once more and continued cautiously, "However, he and the female husky from the town did leave and head in the direction of the forest not too long ago."

Keso's features relaxed and a cruel smile siddled onto his maw. His rump lifted from the ground and his tail flew into the air and he said, "It seems you have been able to be of some use to me Nexus. And some said making this agreement with you, a mutt, would just be a waste of my time. Either way, it seems you've saved your hide for another day. You may return to Nome now and I will see you again by the light of the next full moon."

This said, Keso turned on his heels and loped off into the shadows of the forest, leaving Nexus to ponder his existence and what had just transcribed between the two of them. Clearly, Balto and Jenna were to be his main targets for the time being, but how was he to rectify what he'd done?

____________________________________________________________

At that moment the dark wolf was once more speeding off into the underbrush, contemplating the information he'd just recieved. 'So, they're in the forest now are they? Perfect. My scouts will be able to find them before they even know what's come upon them. They're on our playing field now and we'll always have the advantage here,' he thought to himself and sped on, only halting once he'd reached the Hailstorm campsite and had Cale in his line of sight.

"Cale, select a few scouts and begin sweeping the forest, beginning with all the outlying lands nearest the human town. The half wolf and the husky have decided to pay our woods a little visit, and I'd much rather have the upper hand than allow them to stumble onto us or our prisoners so easily."

Cale said nothing but simply nodded and turned, relaying the order to the pack as Keso turned and headed out his own way, not bothering to see that his beta followed orders. He knew Cale could run the pack perfectly well on his absence and besides, he wanted to try and find the pair of dogs on his own if he could. If he wasn't the first, his pack new well enough to call or send for him when they did find the intruders. Keso picked up his pace, trotting almost silently and weaving in and out amongst the trees as his nose searched the air for the scents of the two. Just when he was beginning to think he'd gone in the wrong direction, his nares caught a decently potent whiff from the female and he grinned maliciously before heading in that direction. It didn't take him long to come upon their spot and carefully, silently hide himself amongst the underbrush, to lie in wait. His surprise attack need not be hurried, not just yet.

Balto woke facing Jenna, who lay curled up against him. He nuzzled her and whispered, "Thank you." in her ear. Jenna sighed happily and moved closer to him, still sleeping peacefully. Balto smiled. No doubt he was thinking of what had taken place between them.
Just as he laid his head down to rest again, he sensed movement in the bushes off to his right a ways. He raised his head again and listened, but his keen ears detected nothing. Satisfied at least for the moment, he laid his head back down and closed his golden eyes.
----
Yay! It's not dead!
Dingowolf: Yes, you were Jenna, but it's been quite a while. Do you really want to rejoin, and if so, do you know where we are and what's happened?
