whoops, I meant as in clone for S.Pride/ and Scamp's Adventure it's flipped.. dopey Princess falls for Rogueish Male, House-trained pup falls for Streetwise (Rogueish) female... anywho, I'm sure Kopa would've fallen for Vitani had that scenario been played in that scenario.

Hmm . . . now I get it. The whole "opposites attract" thing. A rogue with a royal! That does sound similar (it was by the same people almost, so that explains it.).

Kopa and Vitani? O___O crack . . . . That would be cool to see. (At least Kiara didn't fall for Nuka. ew.)

and speaking of Princessess, why the Frig don't they showcase princesses like Eilonwy from Black Cauldron or Kida from Atlantis? blink.gif duh , they're Princesses they don't sing but still royalty.. maybe it's beacuse they're outfits aren't pretty enough or something ..

Yes! YES! They are Princesses, aren't they? I'm not surprised really. I blame the fact that their movies (The Black Cauldron and Atlantis) probably weren't that good to the general public (although I liked them . . . a lot.). Elionwy is a ditzy, bubbly royal with a magic flying bauble (typical blonde? oh yesh.), while Kida is a youthful (and she's how old?!) princess who only wants to protect the long-lasting culture of her people (and get the nerdy guy in the end. Lucky! ^__~). I think more girls would relate more to Kida than Elionwy really (I like her more because Kida's not a ditz like Elionwy, and we don't want ditzes to rule the world, do we? -__-; Never mind that.). But they do need more love, really. The modern Princesses (Cindy, Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, Belle, Aurora) get annoying after spreading their whole "goodness, kindness, and being a princess" message to little girls everywhere. Ugh.

And what about Ariel's Princess daughter, Melody? You never see her anywhere (and her movie has been out for a while).

(Hmm, does Tiger Lily count? She's an Indian princess from Peter Pan . . . and Pocahontas too! She's considered as a princess.)

Quote:
so why isn't Kiara in the Princess line? then again maybe that's a good thing duckiemouth.gif

Oh my gosh, I feel the same way! Kiara is likeable, headstrong, brave, and a Princess by birth (although her weakness is hunting - stick to the throne and your hubby, sista! ). She clearly fits the Princess mold and yet they don't even acknowledge her at all . . . . Poor Kiara.

But you realize, all of their "Princesses" are human (or mermaid, if you mention Ariel - she's a "mermaid princess" that gets hooked (bad joke) by a human prince . . . Either way, she was going to get a prince (either one with fins or one with feet.).) - this is why Simba, Bambi, and Kiara will probably never be acknowledged in a royal line (They probably won't make a "Prince" line, will they?).

Quote:
next thing you know they'll add Lilo to the pack :rambo:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*shutters* I'd kill myself if they did that. (But then again, this is Disney. They're insane and they can do anything they want to their characters.)

Ahhh, scary crack! *dies*

Anywho, let's get back on the subject.

Young love is most likely a popular genre because the characters (somehow) relate to the viewers (which are usually young children . . . and their poor parents). I suppose the writers want the kids to get interested in the film, and also try to continue the story (if it's a sequel/midquel/whatever) or have an intriguing story that all can enjoy.

The only problem is that the storylines get very, very redundant and predictable (I have a lot of films - mainly sequels - that fall into this category). I suppose it's hard to make a good (love) story with likeable characters, a not-so-predictable storyline, and decently good animation.

Don't you guys think so?

That was NOT Love at First Sight!!! Both were cubs when they first met, and best friends. Then, when they met as adults after Kovu saved Kiara's life, she hates him until she realises who he is. They spend a day together before falling in love

Anyways, I love Love at First Sight in animated films. I agree 100% with Eclipta ^^

The only way I can see Mulan being considered A Princess is because The Emperor bowed to Her.(Sorry to be off topic juuchann17, But that was one question no one answered yet  )

Hmm, good point. But she never "officially" received the title of Princess, and that's the problem. I believe the Emperor bowed to her only to show that he (and the rest of China) was thankful for her courage and bravery, because she did save their ruler's life, even though she was a woman - bound for a life of dishonor for disguising herself in order to save her father, and not following the normal life that women usually lead (men rule their society, it seems). Perhaps she's a "Princess" because she has so many of the "Disney Princess" qualities - independent, headstrong, wanting to follow their heart, beautiful, etc. etc., you get the point.

(and that's not off-topic - I asked about that anyway. Besides, at least she didn't fall in love at first sight - she had the "matchmaker" thing . . . and honoring her family to worry about. She had bigger problems than all of these other "lovestruck" people ever did.)

SimbasGuard wrote:
Oh and I think Simba did do away with the arrranged marraige rule. Buecause He wanted to know Nalla Married Him out of love not duty,

I think so too, but at least the "arranged marriage" still happened . . . eventually. (At least no one had to remind them, right? They fell in love naturally . . . probably the joy that the two of them felt when they realized that the other was alive was the spark that caused them to "feel the love tonight" . . .)

Daisy~DreamerWolf: Well, Kiara and Kovu really does have some sort of "Love at First Sight" qualities to it, but I think it mainly falls under "Young Love". Sure, they were together as cubs for . . . only a few minutes, but when they saw each other again, they were older, more mature, and that's when it probably started to go into the whole "love" thing (they didn't realize that they were falling for each other until that moment when they almost kissed after running from the rhinos).

But they did fall in love in a day, really. (from the evening when Kovu saved Kiara from the fire up to the evening when they were with Rafiki singing about "Upendi" (which means "Love", so . . . you take a guess.). 'Nuff said.

(Anyway, the whole "Kovu/Kiara" love thing was all set-up by Mufasa, and watched over by Rafiki (he was watching whenever something happened - "Hey! You! How dare you save the King's daughter!" Why else would he say that unless he wanted Simba to notice Kovu's feat and get Kovu into Simba's pride so he could get closer to Kiara?); he wanted their love for each other to unite the feuding prides, which it did.)

The whole "love at first sight" thing in my opinon just comes from the fact that there isnt' a lot of time in a movie to have a relationship built up like in real life, as said earlier in this topic by Juuchan17. Most movies average around two hours, and depeneding on what else they put in the movie, there can be very little time left for love to develop at a more realalistic pace. If you look at Shakespear, he did the same thing. Looking at Romeo and Juliet, that has "love at first sight". In the one second he sees Juliet, he completly forgets about his previous love, whom just broke up with him and he was obsessed over, and can not think about anything but Juliet. This was done because with the limited amount of time in a play, Shakespear didn't have time to make the whole thing a love story, especialy since it wasn't a love story, it was a tragedy. I belive that's mostly the same reason "love at first sight" is used in movies today still.

True, true. But movies can make time pass sometimes (so that characters can grow up and all), like with Bambi, The Lion King (and TLK2), and other ones where the main characters are young at the beginning and then seem to grow up right before our eyes. I think when the whole "love at First Sight" is in a situation like this, it's more natural IMO.

Nice reference to Shakespeare there. You do make a point - Romeo and Juliet is a perfect example of "Love at First Sight" (and then things tragically go downhill, due to the fact that they are in love and are family rivals). It is considered as a love story, but it's mainly called a "tragic love story" since three days after they first gaze upon the other, they join each other eternally in death, uniting their family's in mourning and realizing the love that their children had for each other.

I think having a really good story that is totally based on Romeo and Juliet for an animated movie is actually hard to do (especially if you still have the death and killing in it), but TLK2 is probably as close as any animated movie is going to get. (because kids don't want to see an animated film with suicide in it. Their parents will get pissed. XD )

This is why I said Kiara and Kovu could be considered as "LaFS", not just because their story was based on the classic tragedy, but also since they did quickly (almost automatically) fall in love (they just didn't realize it until the next day).

Again, great points!

I also think Balto is Love-at-First-Sight. Balt ofalls in love with Jenna as soon as he sets eyes on her, and, even though they don't know each other whatsoever, Balto tries to ask Jenna on a date, and they almost kiss.

TikTac: Well, of course the eariler ones were okay with the "love at first sight" thing.
Remember Snow White? - She meets the prince in the early parts of the film, and for some twist of fate, the same prince rides in to kiss her dead (yet at the same time beautiful) corpse in order to awaken her from death . . . thus leading her to the "happily ever after" that she had always dreamed of. (But then again, we never did find out if the prince and her ever "got hitched" - we only assumed that they did. Of course, it's a fairy tale. The Prince and Princess always get married! It's fairy tale protocol! XD)

And the other fairy tales that he was a part of were almost all the same way:

Sleeping Beauty - Aurora (under the alias of Briar Rose) fell in love with the prince (Phillip, who was betrothed to her but didn't realize it was the same girl since they last met when she was a newborn) at first sight, and still they ended up together in the end (because of true love). (This also had that "action and violence" that you were hoping for, TikTac.)

Cinderella - Cindy first met the prince when she got her Fairy Godmother's magic to give her all that sparkly-ness in order to go to the ball. Then, they just hit it off, and thanks to happy endings, Cindy and her Charming Prince (I mean, Prince Charming) live happily ever after. (I consider this as a great example of "Love at First Sight" done perfectly, since neither knew each other before they saw each other and started dancing)

The Little Mermaid is perhaps the best example of a post-Disney (after Disney's death in 1966) film done that actually makes the term "Love at First Sight" work like a charm. Is it because it is a fairy tale? (Yeah, a fairy tale that was changed for a happier ending - in the original story, she kills herself so that her prince's life could be saved. A real tear-jerker, but she ended up happy too.) Probably so.

Anyone think of another example?

----------------------------------------------

Daisy~DreamerWolf: Hmm, you make a good point. I noticed that at one point (when Rosy first gets sick) he's looking at her, wondering why she is so worried . . . aww, young love.

And they did kiss on the nose . . . . twice.

But you're right: Balto is a decently good example of love at first sight. He sees Jenna and instantly falls smitten for her. I believe you could say he did those things not only to save the sick people that needed the medicine, but to prove his undying love for her (as long as Rosy lived, Jenna would have been happy - probably another reason why Jenna never considered Steele for a mate). Thanks for the thought and idea!

After all Balto must have had some reason to be brave enough to walk up to Rosy and giver Her Her hat, Without worring that She would be afraid of Him.

Same here, SG.

I guess the writers left that open for the fans to decide (and watch the fics roll in).

Anywho, back to the topic:

Hmm, oh dear . . . I can't think of anything to compare to "love at first sight" with! Gah.
