Happy Birthday Starsky!!!!

Hope you have a great day!!!

Thank you. And thanks to Juuchan too. :D

I think that since there isn't a totem pole in Nome, they should have put it in the forest or something.

Not to be critical, but do any of you, in fact, KNOW whether or not there's a totem pole in Nome? Can you document that?

I've seen pictures of many unusual things in Nome. And while I don't know for sure either, it doesn't mean that there isn't one there. Even if it's a mock-up made for tourism's sake...

Well, there might be, but I think it is unlikely. I will look into it Seppala and post my finds later on ;)

Another thing to be considerd is that in "Balto 2" Balto tells Boris that The Totem Poll marks The Shortcut to Jenna's.
Now obviously Balto has gone to visit Jenna many times(Between The first and second movies) so I don't think The Totem Poll just suddenly poped up out of nowhere in "Balto 2".

True. In the first movie he takes more or less the same route to see Jenna and I don't know about you, but I didn't see a totem pole. But then neither did I see a yappy little Scottish Terrier.

Again, while that had to be THE most annoying character in the entire series, certainly it doesn't mean that he wasn't around in the original Balto cartoon world (running around town, annoying the HECK out of people). Whatever is established in one of the cartoons then becomes official for that "world", even if not seen in a previous cartoon of the same series. That is what is often called, in fan circles, as "canon".

Actually Balto never goes to Jenna's house in The First Movie, So The Totem Pole was probably where it was all along.

Exactly :thumright:

Hmm... I never thought about that (what you replied to Starsky). But it is in sight of his boat and kinda in the wrong direction. But I won't get into that, lol.

The inuit people do use Totem poles but I'm not sure if there's one in one in the real Nome but the Balto movies take place in the 1920's it may not be there anymore.

This only occourred to me after I watched it last night. I really don't remember seeing it in Balto 1 or WoC..

I'm pretty sure that they just added that totem pole in wq just to "strengthen" the balto dreams i think it's a really cheap move; to put a totem pole in front of nome and then just take it out

I reiterate my previous postings: the Inuit and Inupiaq peoples did not make totem poles...nor were such things in evidence in either the historic Nome or in modern-day Nome. Those were cultural norms of the Tlingit and Haida peoples of southeastern Alaska and western Canada:
