I will only go when I stop writing Balto fanfiction, and if I stop writing Balto fanfics, I'll probably have a lot of people on my back yelling "What are you doing?! Write more! Write more! We need more of your Balto stories!!" So! I guess I'm stuck here for the rest of my life, or until I forget how to write a good story. Hopefully that'll never happen.

Those who'd still stay longer will simply be overran by the webmaster's decision to close the site. Generally speaking, that's true. But look at my join date. I've been here for almost two years already, and I plan on sticking around longer. Why? Is it because I love Balto that much? Actually, that may not be it. I definitely haven't lost interest in Balto completely, but on the other hand, I'm definitely not as into it as I was back when I first joined. I have to disagree with you on the online friendship thing. Sure, online friendships are completely different from real life ones, but not all of the differences are necessarily bad ones. It's easier to be open online than it is in real life-hence, you could possibly build stronger and more meaningful friendships online than in real life. Sure, you don't see them every day (and a lot of the time you don't even know what they look or sound like in real life). But, I mean, take me for example. Out of all my friends, I have five that I would consider really close. How many of those five go to the same school as me? Zero. How many of those five do I actually know in real life? One. Yes, that's right-I have four friends that I've never met in my entire [real] life (although I have seen pictures of three of them and have talked on the phone with two), and yet I trust them more than the majority of my friends in real life. Sometimes I ask myself why, and honestly, I can't really give myself a good answer. It just seems like all the people around me in real life are only interested in "fun" friendships (what I like to call the type of relationship where someone only want to be friends with someone else so they have someone to have a good time with; in other words, it really has no depth to it). So, yeah. Most of my best friends are people I only know online. And I'm not ashamed of it, either. lol, whoa, long post. Rant done now.
About 2 years ago I also thought that the "online-friendship" truely exists. However - back when I resigned from managing Jurassic Island (my huge JP community), trying to give it into other hands, I've lost almost all of those friends I had there. Not even those who worked together with me on site projects did stay in contact with me, with only one exception. Considering the fact how intensive my online-life was on that community back around 2002, I've had to come to the conclusion that such a "friendship" doesn't really exist. Most people are forgotten within 2 months, which is sad - of course - but if you've got a real life... you know... soon after I got my job with the tigers, and that means - besides less time for computers - concentrating your activities and relationships on the really important things in life.
Indeed - online life offers us to talk in a more opened manner, which is surely the greatest advantage of chatting and posting on a forum. But it also has a negative side: we hide our true personalities. In fact I believe anyone here does, from the youngest to the oldest - as humans always tend to present themselves from their best sides. This means that you hardly ever get to "know" a person, hence, you don't know your "online friends".

Haha, can one really tell how long they will be here? Who knows, but as for me, I hope that my time will not be over anytime soon. I say, kick back, relax, and enjoy it while it all lasts. Best to get memories worth remembering, than to contemplate the future, and miss everything that you're here for in the first place.

This site will be here as long as it'll be here. That's all we can say. We don't how long it'll be here, or how it will end. Why start thinking about that? Enjoy while you have it people, quit whining about something that may happen in 15 minutes, or may never happen. That's all I have to say on this topic.

Interesting topic, I already asked myself that question.
Well, first, I don't expect anyone to stay forever, and I expect members to stay active only for 2 or 3 years. After that, they can still come sometimes, once a month, but not as often as when they were active. That's my point of view.
As for me, that's a bit different, I'm the webmaster. Frankly, I don't know how much time I'll continue to be active on the site. But one sure thing, unless something really prevents me from maintaining it (ex : serious health problems, copyrights problems with Universal, ...), I will keep the site online as long as possible. Since I'm a computer programmer, I make backups, and I shouldn't have so many problems to install the site on any server.
Finally, I'll always be a Balto fan, and I know this will never change.

Well, I'll always be a fan of Balto but I'm sure I'll go through a phase of sort of disappearing from the site. I'll never actually leave though.
