Disney knows what will sell to the majority of young kids and their families

See the thing here, they're not putting the kids' FAMILIES into consideration. Just the kids. What they're basically doing is keeping the kids entertained for an hour and a half. Kids' movies are already dulling their mind, the least they can do is actually make movies "for the whole family" like they're supposed to, so that EVERYONE can "dull their minds" together. The point of Disney was to bring families together through movies. Making movies only for kids is only making (some) families fall apart by not bonding.

Well, seeing it's the last film produced by Disney Toon Studios before its closure (the studio who did Brother bear 2 and Bambi 2), it may be good.

EDIT : Wrong, in fact Cinderella 3 is the last film from this studio, not this one. I don't know which studio exactly is making this film.

As for the whole DTV sequels matter, I've never had any problems with that. I think the biggest mistake they've done with them, was to call them "XXX 2" or "YYYYY 3". They should have just gave subtitles, which would then mean they are added adventures, extras, and not really sequels. Because a sequel, in everyone's mind, should be at the same level as the original.

For example, I think the Balto sequels would have been much better considered if they would have been called "Balto : Wolf quest" and "Balto : Wings of change".

But of course, if they did that, the sales wouldn't have been so good. But only in short terms.

You're right, steet. They should not have put numbers on the movies, especially if they don't go in order, it's only going to confuse kids (ex. Why is Ariel still a mermaid?! She wasn't a mermaid in #2!")

But we also have to keep in mind that the directors for Bambi 2 and Lion King 1.5 actually CARED about their previous movies. The people directing Little Mermaid 3 and Cinderella 3 and Fox and the Hound 2 don't even seem like they care at all, and that should get them fired. Yes, I know that everyone gets lazy with their jobs from time to time, but you can't get lazy making movies, that's entertainment people are paying you for right there, and you best give them their money's worth. And I KNOW that money can never be a true issue for Disney, they have more money than they know what to do with (literally). Because you can't buy good ideas for movies, people have to think it up. And as long as the story stays true to the original, then it's not all bad! But at the same time...there are just some movies where it's impossible to make a sequel, prequel, or midquel that actually fits somewhere (ex. you can't add on to Fox and the Hound or Oliver and Company or Snow White [ESPECIALLY snow white], because those movies show you what happened from the beginning to the end. End of story story)

Well said, Cat!

(And actually Ariel did turn back into a mermaid in TLM2 when she went off to search for her daughter, but of course, she returned to her human self in the end . . . which makes no sense on why TLM3 would have her as a mermaid unless it was really a prequel.)

Actually, Treasure Planet was a possibility, but I think someone...of great importance (God rest their soul XD) didn't want that happening, so it never went into productions. BUT...I could be wrong. I hope I'm not.

Treasure Planet 2?

I hope that never happens. Besides, that film didn't do so well in theaters anyway (I liked it . . . the animation and the character development, not the story, mind you), so why the CHEESE would someone what to make a sequel to a "not-so-good" film?

Now, The Little Mermaid (returning back to the main topic again) franchise has two films (the original and its "craptacular" sequel), a TV series (which was more of a prequel to the first film), and loads of merchandise. Of course, we (as loyal animation fans) have every right to be afraid of a third TLM movie (especially since we have no plot line, no clue to what it's going to be about (with exception to anyone's that's seen the two previews that were on the TLM:SE DVD), and we think that a third film would do nothing but dig Ariel into her own grave (which would be sad. She's a very likeable character . . . for a princess).) - we know that it will mainly suck.

(Unless there's some miracle that will happen or something . . . maybe it will be better than we think it will be?)

Honestly, I agree. These sequels (midquels/prequels/three-in-one movies) are nothing more than cheesy cartoons that are meant for kids. Just the kids. Some are (surprisingly) good, while others aren't even worth the time of day. I suppose this is the way the world works - companies see a certain film doing well, so why not milk the cash cow so much until there's nothing left?

Right? (Geesh, this is why I still prefer to act my shoe size instead of my actual age . . . (Shoe size = 9 to 10.5; actual age = 20 (21 in January)) . . . enough said.)

[EDIT - 10/25/06] - Anyway, I seem to be wrong . . . I have found some new info that may clear up some things that the upcoming TLM3 may be about.

The Little Mermaid 3 - info on Wikipedia

Sure, some of this info may not be correct, but the fact that Ariel's mother will be revealed makes this much more interesting!

(I have a feeling that the main connection is the locket given to Melody in "Return to the Sea" (if you have the PE DVD of TLM, watch the sneak peeks on Disc 1 . . . the "teaser trailer" for TLM3 proves my theory) - perhaps the whole film will be nothing more than a flashback tale that Ariel tells her young daughter, Melody (since she does want to know about Ariel's world so much in TLM2, not realizing that her mother was born a mermaid in the first place) about memories of her mother, how she met her friends (Sebastian and Flounder), and her life as the youngest daughter of the sea king, Triton . . . *sigh* That's the film I'd pay money to see for a TLM3.)

Not again! I'm sick of this! Wht can't they just leave the classics alone? The first was alright but the second just completely ruined the magic in the first. But a THIRD ONE?! Another midquel! Can't they ever leave the old movies alone? Next thing you'll know, they'll make a Snow White 2

I hear they already are planning one.

well, they did make sequels to not-so-good movies like Hunchback and Pocahontas.(the 2nd one is really for damage control) ..

I never read Treasure Island so I don't know if there is main female character in that book besides Jim's mom.. if Treas 2 were too happen. 10 dollars says that they'd either give Jim a girl to hook up with or just have a character round his age for more girl power

I heard that after the Tinkerbell Movie, Cinderella III, and TLM III, they'll hold of on making sequels. here's hoping wiggle.gif

and don't forget The Little Mermaid musical coming in 2007or8 ;)

I have a feeling TLM III will be a 3 part movie (Tarzan and Jane , Atlantis II) etc..

I loved the Little Mermaid when I was younger but now they're probably going to do something like "What if..." which is what is mainly bothering me! The Disney company aren't going to last at this rate! I bet even a five year old could have made something more original!

I mean, how many sequals can you make? they've outdone it with alot of films, not just disney eg,

the land before time ~ how many films about baby dinosaurs can you make, they don't even grow throughout the series!!!

jaws ~ yes, we know, the shark comes back, yadda yadda yadda! what is the point?!

barbie ~ how many films can you make about a doll and how many times can you get away with stealing others ideas

Yup! It's true about flippin Barbie and Jaws and I've never seen much of Land before Time but I have noticed! The sequel makers look like they want people to bring thier so called wonderful work up in a conversation! They just want to be heard about when they make the viewers of films want to kill them!
