Quote: I don't mind if it is on mice and rats. It's when it is on dogs, guinea pigs and monkeys that I don't agree.
Hey...I like rats and mice XD I have a pet mouse. I think only mouse/rat owners would be against that tho... Quote: Yeah everybody has their opinions. And Cat I find rolling your eyes seems very rude indeed. xD
You're offended too easily then. I was rolling my eyes at technology today and how they're still testing on animals.

I am actually. It's a great advantage for medical stuff.

I'd much rather have some animal die then one of my family members. Animals Testing on medical products and stuff is very right, as long as the animals don't get hurt. It isn't abuse at all, it's just people trying to help other people in need
Agreed with Kovu. Testing cosmetics and stuff on animals is one of the most horrific crimes and disgraces on this planet. Absoloutely disgusting.
*WARNING* If you are a serious animal lover, do not read this
I've seen clips of people clipping these huge metal tubes onto beagles' muzzles, and spraying them with loads of smoke. If the beagles die, the experiment is a failure. They actually clip them on so the beagle can't resist the smoke, and they just spray a whole load of it up their noses and mouths. It's just...absoloutely horrific...

I do think it's wrong for cosmetics though. But animal testing for medical reasons is a huge advantage. Those animals could save your family's lives! And I would much rather see an animal die than my mother or father etc..... And before you start shouting 'Animal murderer!' at me, don't. I do like animals. I'm even a vegetarian because I can't stand to eat them.
.P.S. Please don't get this topic locked. Indeed. For medical reasons it's an enormous advantage - and we can't think of getting rid of it. Though, I've to say that many animals get killed in medical testings due to absolutely pointless reasons - as for medicaments that are already known as "useless research" before the testing gets granted by governments. It definately needs better control, as many animal lives are literally wasted by medical research. And yes... animal testing for cosmetics... that's one of our biggest legal crimes I know.
Cosmetics is bad, Medical is good. And about the control, we as Humans, and everything else on this earth has the possibilities to make mistakes. Also, low, low food chain animals are used for testing. They don't use Wolves like some of you want to think to justify your opinion that it is bad for animal testing.

Want to die of an Anthorax bomb sent by the terrorists? You would if there wasn't animal testing. You benefit from it, so you have no right to say its "wrong." Think about...a few animals die....people survive from horrorific things. I'm not going to even mention all of the people animal research has saved.

I totaly agree with Cat 110%. Animal testing is WRONG. I don't care if it could save someone's life. Is an animal's life more important than our own? No. We are all living and animals don't deserve to be tested on. If people are 'all powerful' then why not test on themselves?

Would you save a stranger or your mother/father? You don't know the animal their testing on, and it could save your family's life. So, I agree with animal testing for GOOD reasons.

I basicly comes down to this would you rather die, so that a few more rats can live. Anyway it's not always just for people, they do test stuff for animals so it is always helping, but the make up no.

Well, but they use cats, dogs, chimpanzees - always depending on the laws of where they do the testing. Humans, however, feel a very close relationship to these animals, which makes it highly controversial.
As already stated - animal testing for medical reasons is a good thing for our society. But it needs better control. Researches shouldn't as easily get to a testing permission - because it's a life you're going to trash by it.
It's not that animal-world would really care about it - but it's about the humans. We have morality, and that morality tells us that animals do have feelings as well, that they feel pain and social connections, and that they do their thoughts about other beings living in their environment.

Personally, I agree with Cat. We have enough technology these days..
And since I prefer animals to humans, I'd prefer a human to die than an animal. Well.. maybe things would be different if it was a family member.. I don't know.
I'm not much of a fan of rats and mice. There are lots in the world..
When I last went to London there were stalls in the streets advertising anti-animal testing campaigns. Beagles seem to be most popular in the cigarette and cosmetic testing.. ohh.. I love Beagles...

The problem is that the "technology" cannot test wether a living organism reacts too negatively on drugs. In fact ANY medicine is poisonous at a certain dosis, and only tests with living organisms allow us to distinguish how risky it is to use a medicament. Primarily it will always be tested on what we consider "lower"* beings, and secondarily on humans that agree to a contract for testing the drugs on themselves.
* and yes - personally I prefer animals as my companions too, but scientifically seen it's just factual.
Additionally, as has already been pointed out here, medical research is done for animal care matters as well - it doesn't only save human lives, after all.

*quivers* you know this is taking every SINGLE ounce of self control to not scream at you and everyone else. *deep breath* animals testing is compleatly wrong. First of all, Mice and rats are just as alive as dogs, cats, monkeys, and guinie pigs! They just are smaller! And Animal testing isn't even nessisary. Even if it does hurt the animal, it doesn't mean that it will hurt people. Our skin is different from theres. Second, if it doesn't hurt the animals, then they still have to live in horrible cages *shakes with rage* NEVER! by eny way should ENY animal, from a mouse to a dog, have to live like that! And don't say something like "HOw do you know that" BEcause I DO know that! I reaserched Animal Labs once. And animal labs are an ever growing problem, and the last thing that all of us animal lover need is someone saying "Hey! Animal labs ARE good!" I'll cut myself off there before I REALLY say something mean

It's going to take some time for many of you to realize these things, so I think it's perfectly logical to let time do its thing. Animal life is in no way more valuable over humans. Some of you need to realize you may have family members that have surived something drastic things, and it could be due to medical research. As I said, let time do its bidding, and if any of you or someone you're close to comes down with something, you will change your minds.
