For Me "Bambi 2" fit in so well with the original "Bambi" that I can't compare Them.

I agree.

To me, the original Bambi will hold a special place in my heart as a well-told tale of an innocent, young fawn, born into the beautiful yet dangerous world of the forest, and while he learns and matures into a regal, young prince, he deals with tragedy, changes of season, love, hate, pain, survival, and bravery as he continues the circle of life that he was born into. (Gawd, this sounds like the Lion King in so many ways . . . no wonder they used this film as inspiration!)

The sequel, although a tad bit modernized, held true to the original's majestic beauty and magic, although it was, at times, predictable. Taking place just after Bambi's mother loses her life to save her only son, The Great Prince takes over, teaching his son about his title of "Prince" and soon he learns that perhaps his young heir was also teaching him to love.

So I agree: both films, in their own right, are both masterpieces.

And to answer some questions:
- I think Faline is actually a bit younger than Bambi, but perhaps the male deer mature a bit quicker than does. I mean, she is Bambi's cousin . . . perhaps late-blooming is natural among their family bloodline? (Now, now. Don't argue to me about Faline and Bambi being cousins. The storybooks for the movie proves it; it's just never mentioned in the film.)

- Ronno is older than Bambi, yes, by at least a few months, since his antlers were bigger than Bambi's in the first film when they fought over Faline. He's just a big bully - Bambi's opposite, in other words. He's the trademark rival for Faline's love and devotion . . . and it's a good thing they didn't make Ronno talk in the first film; that gave the scene more drama and action as it paid more attention to Faline's cry for help and Bambi's growing rage to save her.

- The Great Prince's name is . . . . The Great Prince. (he doesn't need a name really. What are they going to do: name him "Bob"?)

Actually it dose mention that in the film( I think ) Bambi's Mother tells Him "This is Your Cousin Faline" When She introduses Them.

Uh, no. She just says "That's little Faline." And I would know, I've watched it approximately 100 times; no exaggerating.

I agree; the "Great" Prince is such a great name for such a royal in the forest.

But then, Bambi's mother is only known as "Bambi's Mother" . . . and Ronno's name wasn't even mentioned in the film at all . . .

So, I suppose being without a name is normal in the forest, unless you're really, really important (or unless you're the Great Prince).

And you're correct, Olivia: Bambi's mother never mentioned that Faline was his cousin (or that her mother, Ena, was his Aunt . . . yes, Faline's mother has a name! Hmm, why does "Ena" and "Mena" (from Bambi II) connect somehow? Could they all be related to Bambi's mother? Well, they all look alike . . . . they're deer for goodness sake.), but she did introduce her to Bambi as if she had known the two of them well.

Well, that's my opinion on it.

The book was very gruesome XD But I liked it. It explained alot and it showed an entirely new side to Bambi. I was a bit upset that they never mentioned the great prince's name...They mostly only called him the old stag or the great stag.

I think Gobo should've been in the movie tho, he was cool. And I did wonder why they never mentioned that all of the bucks of the forest were "princes"...but I suppose that children would get confused since they're accustomed to there being only one prince...

But I am glad that in Bambi 2 they explained that Bambi had known Ronno once before, like in the book and showed how "full of himself" Ronno was XD Karus would've been a good addition, but I guess one bully would've done it. And they did show that Bambi rather admired Ronno, which was good too. Ronno's my favorite character XD

Me too. Actually when I first saw Ronno in Bambi II pictures (before the movie was released), I thought it was Gobo. Wasn't he Faline's brother or something? I thought I remembered that he and Faline were also related somehow . . . .

Hmm, I never realized that. (Was that in the book? If it was, I think I should reread it again . . . XD) But that would make sense.

(So does that make the young does "princesses"? )

Well, that is a good point. I mean, it wouldn't make any sense if Bambi didn't know Ronno until that moment when they fought in the original film, but Ronno's character as a fawn in Bambi II really reflected how he was shown when he and Bambi grew up.

(Karus? Was he in the book also? Hmm, I really should read Bambi again . . .) But I agree, it was better with just one "bad" bully . . . even if he was (and probably still is) a narcissus. XDD

If Bambi's father was called The Great Prince of the forest, shouldn't Bambi's mother be known as The Great Princess? :?

Well, I don't think that would be possible really. Since the Great Prince is so old and wise, who knows how many lovers he loved and lost throughout his life? (Hmmm, an interesting idea for a fic . . .)

Maybe there is a Great Princess, somewhere . . . Go figure.

Yes, Gobo was Faline's younger brother (im guessing they were twins, but he was born after Faline) and he was taken in by Him (or Man, if you're more accustomed to the movies)

Haha I don't know, they never really treated does like "royalty" in the book as much as I can remember. I guess they just called them princes because of how magnificant they (the bucks) displayed themselves. At least thats my opinion.

Yeah cuz when I was a kid when I first seen Bambi I didn't know who Ronno was until I read a Disney's Bambi storybook. It was then that I realized that the rivaling buck had a name XD But yes Karus was in the book, he was another buck that Bambi fought with, but again I'm guessing that one bad guy was enough XD I just kind of wished that what they would've done differently in the movie was show how "obsessed" Bambi was with The Great Prince. I think that was a key factor as to why the old stag appeared, disappeared and then reappeared.

Well...the only reason they called him The Great Prince was because he lived longer than any other deer. And Bambi's mom wasn't THAT old, and Im sure the Great Prince (in the book) had many mates before, so he didn't treat her too special (like...bucks don't stay with their does once they've mated, as many male animals do) Except in Bambi 2, he seemed to have been very faithful to her, which is very sweet and better influenced for children, but they didn't stick to the book (which isn't necessarily a bad thing either)

After Bambi's mother is killed by hunters, his father comes to him,and replies..Quote:Your mother can't be with you anymore, come my son, wouldn't that account for Bambi's parents to be mated but living apart, from each other?

Yes, but I think deer don't stick to just one mate, as Cat said. The Great Prince had known all about Bambi since his birth, knowing that if he survived to buckhood, he would be the buck most likely to carry on his name of "Great Prince" (Remember the ending of the original film? Bambi stood on the rock, looking down at Faline and his newborn fawns, and his father stepped down, as if he was "passing the torch" to Bambi. I mean, think about it: Why else would The Great Prince teach him about "watching the herds" and feeling the ground with his hooves unless he wished to pass the title on to his youngest son?).

Wow, such great discussion here, huh?
