i highly doubt the other two or the sequels are true........but i dunno the third could have possibly happened but who knows?

The events in neither of the sequels actually happened to Balto (nor was the real Balto involved in anything like them). While the events of the third cartoon are historically plausible (meaning they could have happened at any time, in any part of Alaska, to any dogs and humans), it is still very, VERY unlikely that a real bush pilot would have taken the kinds of risks that Duke took. Or, allowing for better weather conditions, that a dog sled team would have stood a chance against a bush plane in a race.

However, as the third movie implied (correctly), it was only a matter of time before bush planes all but replaced dog sled teams for running mail and supplies back and forth over the Alaskan bush...except in the colder months, when dog (and even reindeer) sled teams were the only means of transport into remote areas.

thats pretty much what i said.....it most likely didn't happen but the third could have happened....

Well, it's not a problem, but I interpreted your first post to mean that the events in the third movie could have actually happened to Balto and the others. What I was saying was that they could not have, given the real history, but that the events could have happened to any other dog or human at that time, technically.

White Mountain is a real town, but I don't think that the storyline is true. It is possible though, and the reason Duke crashed was because it was 1928, they probably didn't have the technology to know exactly when the storm would hit. I mean think about it, even sometimes now we aren't totally prepared (think, ''Hurricane Katrina''). SO DUKE WAS NOT A BAD PILOT!!!

And WQ couldn't be true, unless spiritual things like that really exist. Plus, no one was on that journey execpt dogs and wolves, so how could it have gotten recorded? How did people know that Aleu joined a wolf pack?

I think the only one that has some truth in it is the first one.

Calm down please. First of all, I didn't say "Duke was a bad pilot". Second, you're getting all flustered over someone's opinion about a cartoon character. How crazy is that?

Third, the date has nothing whatsoever to do with the circumstances of the crash. Even in the 1920s, pilots knew what conditions occurred in the areas they flew in (no matter the time of year), and whether or not it would be safe to fly. The FACT is that a bush pilot in the real world would not have flown at that time of year...up in Alaska, the weather is still too cold in the changeover from winter to spring. AND, lastly, as has been indicated in the True Story board, the bi planes used in Alaska at the time had water-cooled engines...meaning that, if it were too cold, they couldn't fly (the water would freeze). And, in the early spring, they were just getting around to re-assembling planes that were dismantled before the cold weather set in during the late fall. Feel free to contact any air museum or Alaskan small air service and verify these facts.

Balto 3 was a cartoon. The writers/directors/producers of the cartoon were not so much concerned with historical accuracy as with telling what they felt was a good story. When are you people going to recognize the difference?? (Er...those of you who DO, please forgive that bit of consternation on my part.) Even Balto 1 was largely a FANTASY, which was only based on the real story!

The only thing you said which holds water is that White Mountain is a real town, which it is (if only barely a village). As to preparedness for Hurricane Katrina versus bush pilots knowing when and when not to fly?? Apples to oranges. There is a highly-developed weather warning system that identifies and even tracks most hurricanes and tornados. The problem with the Katrina disaster was that the city of New Orleans had a water channeling system that was way out of date, and a corrupt city government...so all those people needlessly died primarily for THOSE reasons. (God, I hope this doesn't throw the thread off-track...I was just responding to Balto_Dreamer. Let's not turn this into a discussion about Hurricane Katrina or modern weather disasters!)
