As I said to Ghostwolf earlier (here and in the True Story board), I would suggest you read up on Togo's real history. Then you would realize why such a suggestion is insulting to Togo's historical legacy, and the dog himself. Even in a supposedly innocent jest of a post like yours.

I don't think it should be. In real life Balto's 'friend' was named Togo. Steele is definently not a friend of Balto's.

While that is a very nice thought, and it is hypothetically possible, there is no historical evidence I've ever encountered which supports that assertion. Besides, Togo was quite literally in a different class than Balto. Balto was considered, by his owner Leonhard Seppala, to be a "B" dog...worthy of only hauling freight and doing spare work (and thus, was neutered too). Togo was an "A" dog...a real rising star in his day*. Togo was kept "intact", and used not only for freight work, but also for racing and emergencies. The two were probably even penned (kenneled) separately.
* By 1925, however, Togo was an aging veteran at 12 years old, and would only live four more years thereafter; conversely, Balto was only 3 years old in 1925. So it's highly unlikely they would have trained together.

technically, the creators of Steele named him that because he's about as tough as it.
Togo just doesn't make sense. Cool name, wrong character.

How could a real dog be jealous of the attention another real dog received?? They are not capable of such emotions.
If anything, Togo AND Balto's owner, Leonhard Seppala, bore Balto a grudge for the fame he received, when Togo received essentially none (until much later, and never at the level Balto received). And for that, Seppala was wrong, and totally unfair to Balto. The real Balto could not have possibly understood why his owner was so upset with him. Fortunately, however, Balto had little chance to experience his owner's hatred and jealousy. As he was taken out of Alaska very soon after the Serum Run.
Seppala, however, bore that grudge until he died. And it was a black mark on an otherwise legendary life. And some husky breeders and mushers STILL pass on that same attitude of Seppala's, when they talk about Balto. It's not right. Balto did his duty, and enjoyed doing it, like any dog did at the time. He probably had no understanding of why he was doing it, only that he did. If anything, it was the press corps that deserved Seppala's anger, for ignoring the participation of the other dogs and humans involved. Besides, Togo had already earned awards, trophies, and plenty of kudos and press coverage for his part in being Seppala's lead dog through several races (mostly the famous "Alaska Sweepstakes" races) and also in work-related runs.
