It's not fan-made.. I found this about three years ago.. I believe I saved it in my documents somewhere. Anyway, I copied it from a site on Google Images.. it just had a selection of the different 'Balto' movie posters.

In fact, the topic was about that one :

Image

Well, it's not fanmade, but it's not official either. It's only a "famous" drawer who did it. She makes art for many companies, and try to sell them after. I suppose that Universal did not accept to buy it, since it hasn't been sold...

A shame, since this would be the perfect cover for a Special edition DVD.

Yeah, sounds familiar. I don't remember reading the article fully..
I think it looks really effective.

Here is what I scanned from our original Balto VHS cover.

2.2 meg JPEG file

If you don't like the non-original cover you have, click the '2.2 meg JPEG file' link above, then you could print this to look authentic!

I have something interesting!
I have sent an email to the author of the "non-official" painting, and here's the answer I got :

Quote:
steetboris,

The "Balto" painting was a preproduction painting commissioned by Universal Studios for the marketing of "BALTO" before the movie was released to theaters in 199?. It was a one of many preproduction comps considered for the Movie Poster and Video Cover done by myself and other artist. Hopefully you will be able to afford the painting in the near future.

Thanks for taking the time to review my site.
Ezra

So it was made BEFORE the film was released, and even BEFORE the film was produced!!! So, probably in 1992 or 1993...I would have never expected this...I'm going to make an article about this!

Man, Balto still looks like a Terrier on there, just like on the DVD/VHS re-release... still pretty cool though.
