Actually, again, Togo's body is in the Iditarod Trail Headquarters Museum in Wasilla...a suburb of Anchorage. It is not in Anchorage itself.
Yep...I mentioned the location of Togo's skeleton already...the Peabody Museum of Natural History of Yale University. In storage. His skin mount was formerly displayed there, in an exhibit they had (and may still have for all I know) of famous animals.

Yep...that's been an on-going struggle. Still, when you consider how Balto left Alaska right after the serum run, with most of his team (under the watchful eye of Gunnar Kaasen, Seppala's protege), and never returned, perhaps Alaska doesn't have much claim to him.
After all, when the chips were down, for the team, it was a Cleveland, Ohio businessman, and the city of Cleveland who rescued Balto and his team, and celebrated him once he arrived there (along with the help of the American press corps and donations from Americans all over the country, once news spread about the team suffering from the neglect of the dimestore sideshow owner, and that terrible, hot, cramped, dark room he put them in for display with his oddities). By then, of course, Kaasen had been called back to Nome by Seppala...essentially abandoning the team (not by his choice I must believe) under orders. He did work for Seppala, after all. It was the sale of Balto and the team to that dimestore owner that was the last contact Kaasen ever had with the team.
One can only imagine how disillusioned and confused the dogs must have been...and how sad they must have soon become. They were largely ignored in the dimestore...the Cleveland businessman said there were hardly any visitors when he was there, and the dimestore owner seemed glad to be rid of the team, as he appears not to have been making enough money off of them. Still, he wouldn't let them go for less than $2,000.00. In the 1920s that was a LOT of money (and this was, if my research is right, the late winter of the following year, 1926; they had spent three long months wasting away in that horrible place).

I've heard that Togo's body is stuffed in the Official Iditarod Centre (or museum) in Anchorage. Is that the same as what you mean? But that is what i've heard

It's in Wasilla. There is only a question in my mind as to whether it is actually in the Iditarod Trail Museum, which is what I actually read, or the Dorothy Page Museum. Both are in Wasilla...but the web information where I found the picture of Togo's mount no longer exists on Iditarod.com, which is where I found it. Why they took that information down, I have no clue. I have e-mailed them for clarification of this. Seeing as it was on the Iditarod.com website, logic suggests that the mount is in the Iditarod Trail Museum, not the Dorothy Page Museum. Never having BEEN to Alaska...yet, that is...I cannot speak with conclusive authority on this. Until the museum replies. Wasilla sits north of Anchorage (I once read it's about 35 miles north of there, across the river you can see on this map...however, if you believe the legend on the map, regarding mileage, it couldn't possibly be 35 miles...):
Here is a link to the two museums' pages, which should settle the question of Wasilla or Anchorage. However, once I hear back from the Iditarod Trail Museum, I will post the information here to conclude all this uncertainty:

I would like to apologize for the confusion over the exact location of Togo's mount. I should have this settled soon. It's a bit of a mess, for sure. But I am working on getting the answer for you all. And that will resolve anything I posted before regarding the two different museums.
