Ok, first off, I don't mean to flame, but people like you frustrate ME. Reason being mainly because you have no open-mindedness. (BTW, you're NOT right on this subject, it's impossible to be, so you can stop with the attitude now)
You think a character should just stay the way they should no matter what, when in reality character DOES change. Hate to break it to ya, but things DO change. If Balto or Kodi or (especially) Aleu just stayed the same forever, people would get sick of them!
Fanfics are for writers who have a different point of view on things, which is KEY in real life. If they think Aleu was a POS, then they have all the freedom in the world to write about it!
I don't recall ever seeing anywhere on any Balto movie that they prefered that fans not "butcher" the character. Fanfiction and any kind of fandom is encouraged by companies like Universal and Disney and whatnot and you have no right complaining about it!
Ok, I'll look at it from your point of view, so you've read a fic where Balto was out of character for no reason, ok? He was evil and self-centered and just all-out mean. Now, if the author explains it SOMEWHERE in the fanfic as to WHY Balto's acting like that, that's reason enough for Balto to be evil, etc. But if he's like that and they don't explain anything as to why, (then they probably broke one of the rules of writing and didn't look over their work) THEN I could see where your coming from.
As for killing an official character, does it REALLY matter? Honestly? It adds to the drama and storyline. Sick of drama? Tough, because humanity's addicted to it.
And another thing, if you KNOW you're not going to like a fanfic? Why read it? That also FRUSTRATES me about you people. You people see a fic you KNOW you won't like, but then you're like "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! I can't allow this person to write this garbage! HOW DARE THEY!" They're expressing themselves through words in type and you're treating it as if they wrote bad things about you in their Live Journal or something!
So you're right to a small extent, but I'm still gonna disagree with you.
