Despite the poem being badly written, sounds like the writer is using a metephor(sp?), just in this case, he/she is using "wolf" instead of "killer."

Close...it's actually symbolism. While the poem holds no explicit meaning, so we'll never really quite know for sure, I believe the last verses of the poem make it quite clear;

"Into her body, the wolf plowed"

Meaning it was something inside of her.

"Her body went limp, and gave the wolf praise"

A transformation.

"And with a smirk said 'Who's afraid of the big bad wolf now?'"

Whatever it is has taken possesion of the Queen.

In case you haven't figured it out, the culprit's a Warewolf. And the Queen killed all those people. What section did you say you found this poem in, again? the FANTASY...?

Or it could be a poem about werewolves, like Suka said. I just wouldn't go as far as saying it's a "wolf hating" poem.

I'm no big fan of wolves but that poem was just plain ridiculous.

found this pic at the end of the Animalssection, I thought I would bring I to the front.
Yet more bad Rap for the wolf-werewolf pr not it still sends the "big bad wolf" image.

I can't see the picture - Sheba did you forget to post it or am I just imagining things?

Anyway, I think it's awful to portray wolves as the 'bad guys.' Wolves do not attack people unless they are rabid or they feel they're threatened.
But I agree with Suka in that the wolf is meant to be symbolic. But whatever it is, you have to remember it's not just wolves that are given the bad rap. Just take a look at the unfair portrayal of hyenas in The Lion King. Yet I see no-one come to their rescue.

Yes, just like the title says, there is this site I browse called Fiction Press. Yeah, and so I was browsing the Fantasy section and found this poem:

One Day in a perfect town

A man was killed

People say the wolf

Caused the blood of the man to spill

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Queens messager told her the news

She just showed him to the door

'I warned you' he said

'Becaue you might not live no more'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One Day in a perfect town

A little girl is killed

People say the wolf

Caused the blood of the girl to spill

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Queens messager brought in the wolf

Into her body, the wolf plowed

Her body went limp, and gave the wolf praise

And with a smirk said 'Who's afraid of the big bad wolf now?'

*************************************************************
Another bad reputation thing for wolves. Havn't we done enough? Tormented them enough?
Gah, what is the world coming to?

Look, the fact that you found it in the Fiction section should dismiss most of this hatred towards this poem. Some of the replies to this poem on here are that "we need to stop.." It's fiction people, read the post? Fiction. Shame on the person who started this topic, as well. Where is the title of this poem? Who wrote it? That is very disrespectful to the author.

Also, Swords, what's with that outburst? And to think, a mod with that attitude...sad.

Strawberry, that has nothing to do with this topic. I don't think the author of the poem is a wolf hunter.

I agree with Ghost Unit, this is kind of disrespectful to the author. They have the freedom to write about what they want, and besides, I don't think that the author was aiming for realism. (unlike the wolves in The Day After Tomorrow). I think we should just live and let live.

It's pathetic.

I've never heard of it though so hopefully not many other people have.

I don't think wolves actually have such a bad name though now.
At the Wildlife Park I went to I spent a while near the wolf enclosure and most people were walking by and explaining to their kids that they were 'very big doggies'. Others were saying how beautiful they were. But then you get the odd idiot that hurries the kid by and says 'Hurry or he'll come eat you! Big bad wolf!'

Maybe instead of railing against a poem that, to be frank, isn't even all that good, you people should actually do something to educate about wolves. Go around to local schools, teach a class about them, do something. Sitting in you comfy computer chair with your Balto plushes and fan art around you isn't doing anything.

And give me a break people, do you honestly think that people are going to be swayed by a fictional poem? Please. People think what they want to think about wolves. If they think they are ravenous killing machines, then that is what they are going to think. If they think they are cute doggies with a sophisticated society, then that is what they are going to think no matter how many poems they read.

And as long as we are destroying literature for the sake of the preserving the masses, we better get rid of all the Brothers Grimm fairy tales that reference the Big Bad Wolf. We wouldn't want anyone to have an opinion other than ours, right? In fact, we might want to get rid of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, because they talk about slaves and casts American in an unflattering light. You know, it would probably be better if we got rid of everything controversial as well. No "Satanic Verses", no Stephen King, CERTAINLY no Judy Blume (because God knows, teens shouldn't hear about sex until they're 35, if ever), and absolutely nothing that casts even the slightest aspersions on wildlife or things that a select few on this board enjoy. Now we don't have 98 percent of all the literature ever written. What a wonderful world.

(Note to people who are rather slow: If you read the last paragraph, I was being facetious)

This is exactly what is wrong with the world today. No, silly, not a poem about "bad" wolves, the fact that you all are worked up about it and want to stop people from writing things. What ever happened to being able to speak your mind? I guess it vanished in the wussyness that engulfed the world over the past 30 years. "Oh, no! That's insensitive! You can't say that!". "Oh, no! That's not nice! Someone's feelings may get hurt!". The world in general needs to quit being such a bunch of babies.

As to the mods and other cursing, swearing, and otherwise waxing wroth in high dudgeon, why don't you calm yourselves. Is that how you got to be a mod and ambassador to the site? By flipping your lid every time you come across something about wolves that makes you the slightest bit peeved? Why don't you all switch to decaf. Sheesh, other folks would get at least a warning for swearing right on the board like that, if not an outright 3 day ban or something.

In total, get a grip people. It's a poem, nothing more, nothing less. Stop going out of your way to find things to be angry or upset about. The wolves survived our massacre inducing period during the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Passenger Pigeon can't say that. The Buffalo almost can't say that. They aren't going anywhere. Calm down.
