I heard Hostel was pretty freaky -- but I don't speak from experience. I'm not really much of a horror type.
I knew you were going to say that^^
Yes Hostal is kinda freaky but more grose then anything.
If you want a movie to scare and make you jump, try watching Pet Cemetary 1&2
Exorsist the beginning
13th Ghost
House on haunted hill (new verssion)
Blair Witch 2 Book Of Shadows.
I will list more in a bit.

"The Ring" might give you a laugh or too, or make you go "WTH was that?" when your done. Really much more of a mystery type one, it's more grisly and gruesome (When you see the victims pales distorted faces) than scary. A bit disturbing, the "kill you in 7 days" video images, but otherwise not worth it if you just want a scare. I heard the Japanese original version was scarier and better, but that's what everyone always says. "Huzzah!, Japanese version = better, Remake = sucks!"
:p Seriously, many movies today lack any scariness besides the shallow kind where something jumps out at the screen packaged with an annoyingly loud orchestra note.

Lioncourt wrote: I'd say, if you're looking for a scary movie, check out The Descent. It's about a group of women who explore underground caves, I'll not spoil any of the plot for you but let's just say that the tension in this movie is almost unbearable in places, drawing out the moments when you know something scary is going to happen and constantly toying with your expectations. It's the first horror film in a long time that has really made me uncomfortable while watching (in a good way ^^) and genuinely afraid of what will happen next.
Yeah I've got that, it really does mess with your head the way you know something is about to happen but it just drags on and on and you get really worked up, it's not much of a horror but very good for suspense.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre the original version was heck scary, at least to me, the new version was'nt quite as scary as the original one but still OK, if you don't like blood and gore don't watch TCM, it's very gorey (that's the good part).

I haven't seen the movie Pulse yet, but the trailors & commercials look scary. I'm not sure if it's out yet but you should see it.
