OK guys, 100% NOOOO on the Alaskan Husky.
He couldn't be a "Purebred" and an Alaskan Husky as they're not considered a breed. The AKC nor any other Kennel Club has recognized the Alaskan Husky as a breed due to it's extremely varied physical characteristics. Most Alaskan Huskies I have ever met and seen in pictures, video etc look like this
Now just for a little background info about myself I work for Animal Control so I'm around animals every day. I own a Siberian Husky. I closely follow the Iditarod Sled Dog Race which is FILLED with Alaskan Huskies and I also volunteer for a Siberian Husky Rescue. I am extremely educated in dogs and wolves and people come to me constantly to find out whethere a dog is Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute etc. as the two are very close.
Somebody earlier in this thread mentioned that Steele is probably a mix between the two and the animators, producers, etc. made him that way. That is what I totally agree with. He could be an oversized Siberian Husky as I have met some big "Purebred" huskies in person, and yes they were Siberians, its just thier pedigree is not of good quality, aka their parents did not have the best qualities to meet up with the breed standard. The further down in generations you go the worse it gets usually.
Just for you guys here's what I posted earlier in an article on BS
Siberian Husky:
Weight - Male - 45 - 60 lbs
Female - 35 - 50 lbs
Height - Male - 21 - 23.5 in
Female - 20 - 22 in
Feet are generally smaller, slimlined as Balto's feet were like. His ears are set high up on his head just like the breed standard implys.
Alaskan Malamute:
Weight - Male - Close to 85 lbs
Female - Close to 75 lbs
Height - Male - Close to 25 in
Female - Close to 23 in
Their feet are significantly wider and their ears are lower off from the top of their heads
Ok that's my professional two cents worth... enjoy!!
