It has been said that Balto should have been another TLK, but if it was I don't think it would have the same appeal or be valued as much as it is by the fans.

Well you're wrong on that point : Balto is much less known, but look at how many regular members there are on the site...

What I mean to say is that I don't think we'd cherish it as much as we do to some degree, since unlike, TLK and a ton of other movies Balto wasn't over merchandised and pounded into the sub culture of society. If you asked a random person about Balto they’d probably ask you who or what Balto is or was, but mention The Lion King and almost anyone will know about it.

You're taking the things the wrong way, Balto isn't popular BECAUSE they haven't merchandised it and such.

I know that, what I mean to say is that I think people have a deeper connection to it now as it stands then they would have had Balto become another TLK, because with Balto you didn't see a TON of merchandise around, so people weren’t burned out on it so to speak.

i know what BC means, he means "in the story if balto was a very popular daog" not if the movie was popular, because it is!! there is over 1000 people on bs (i think, because there is!!) and that means over 1000 people have whatched the film and liked it!! :)

That's what I thought it was, I don't think the story would have had as much impact if Balto was popular with the other dogs to begin with, I think that's why they made him part-wolf, so he was an outcast until all the others saw how good he really was.

I don't think it would have delivered the same messge. He wouldn't have had to fight the other dogs to prove his worth and they probably would have just let him take the antitoxin back to Nome. Jenna probably wouldn't have liked him as much either. I don't know why I think that, I just do..

quite understandable

I Wou;d've liked to see "Balto" Become as well know as Lion King. I don't think It would make Me feel any less fomd of "Balto". One good thing that wouldv'e come out of "Balto being more popular is that The Original voice cast would've come back for the sequels, And The Other Two Pups would've been given names.

That most defiantly would have been an added benefit. I donno for me though I like movies but when I go out and see nothing but shotty merchandise for the movie I get sick of looking at it and in the end I don't think it really does the movie any good. I honestly think this is one of the reason behind so many Disney sequels, just my opinion. I do wish Balto was more well known and that more merchandise was created though it’s an awesome story that I wish more people knew about.

More merchandise would probably have helped the movie along and to get more fans, I would'nt want it to have gotten out of control like the winnie the pooh franchise, you can't go anywhere without seeing that stupid bear on something, the plushies were great and the books but t-shirts, plastic childrens cups/ dinnersets, colouring books and PVC toy sets would have been wonderful. Such a shame Universal did'nt pay as much attention to Balto as it should have.

Heheh you'd wish that.
Balto isn't popular YET.
But all I can say that here in Romania, naaaaaaah, this summer I chated on mIRC and many didn't knew.(I am not chatting cause,well..uh i hate that place).
And included me in my classroom arround 10 knows about Balto,lol..and some who're my friends(I told them) and my family, lol.
I would oike if Universal would give a chance for Balto.I dunno, but it'll be very neat if it'll be that popular as Pokemon,or Sonic the hedgehog, lol.(Don't like these 2,but i said as e.g.)

in Finland same thing. Shops are trying to get rid of Balto DVDs and Videos with cheap prices  even market nearby my house sells Balto 2 "Pako Yli suurenveden" Did not enjoy it that much  it was good comedy in Summer place 'cause nothing else to do

And in Mexico Balto popular? Nooo no no no no that ain't true at all! That is bad thing to say. I think no land is liking from Balto that much.
I think I'll raid Finnish Balto site called Sudenkuoppa if I can find it
