I am using version 1.5.0.4 of Firefox. (HELP tab > About Mozilla Firefox)
I would be more than happy to show you a screen shot of it... but I don't have a working picture editing program to save it so I can't really show you right now.

Actually, I'd stick to the traditional HTML bodies. Well, XHTML, actually - because that's the future of HTML coding. CSS is nice and all, but as you said yourself: it isn't compatible enough to all the browsers we know. Every browser interpretates CSS a little different than another one. CSS is excellent to format text, links, buttons and tables - as every browser interpretates those features the same way.
Ever thought of creating a template platform with php? That would make it much easier to keep your site layouts up to date, and allows you to code the good old solid way.

No, it's possible to make it compatible with most browsers.
For now I've tested it with the three main ones (IE, Firefox, Opera) and it works "perfectly" with the three, except for two things I've added but that are not really related to the change (the "shadowed" text under the banner doesn't seem to work with Opera, but everything else does; and the buttons that IE does not fully "understand")
As much as I know, CSS is the future, Table are not made for layout. More and more profesionnal sites make the change.
Also, it has the big advantage that the pages load progressively under IE, and not "at once", so it make feel that the pages load quicker.
About the poll problem, I have the same on my PC now, so I will get to correct it. But in fact I will also replace the poll with "Div", so...

Yeah, but you haven't tested with browsers like Konqueror or Lynx. Of course, CSS belongs to the future layout languages, as does XHTML. Yet it is what its name suggests: a style sheet. It's supposed to handle website styles, which have less to do with the body, actually, but more with font, button and table formats - as well as it's excellent to decrease the waste of bandwidth. Block positioning is another feature of it, of course, but not all browsers handle that properly yet.
CSS goes hand in hand with HTML, so - where's the problem anyways? I seriously suggest you to write a php platform, allowing you to use template files, which then again allow you to easily switch and update HTML body. If you can't code in php, I could even help you. It isn't all that complicated to get that working.

Err, I don't know if you mean that I don't use PHP code on the site, but if that's the case you're wrong : I DO use PHP! (Fortunately, it would never be possible to manage a site like that without it ) It's just that I use an URL rewriting method so that it changes the URL to ".htm" and the right parameters, so that the search engines crawl the site more efficiently.
Quote: Yeah, but you haven't tested with browsers like Konqueror or Lynx.
The percent of visitors using such browsers are not even 0.1%...And the kind of people who uses them, know very well how to change to another browser if there are compatibilty problems. Besides, if they are W3C compliant, there shouldn't be any real problem.
Some stats for the site (approximative) :
IE = 75%
Firefox = 20%
Safari = 1%
Netscape = 1%
Opera = 1%
All the others = 0.5%
Oh and I wanted to test it under Lynx, but I can't use the site who offer to display it online anymore. And I don't want to download it.

Well, IF you use php on the main site, then I seriously don't see a reason to change something in your layouting method. It's about the most handy tool to manage the styles of your site.
EDIT: Holy crap! You've got 20% of FireFox users?! That's amazing! My statistics are like 11 %... I wish I'd have your visitors... that's heaven for any web designer

To be more W3C compliant, to shorten the length of the page (so increase the speed), to display the pages progressively under IE instead of "at once" (cause IE wait that the content in Tables is fully loaded before displaying it, so it can be very long when ALL the page is in tables and you have a low connection...)
20% is approximative, it's more 18% in fact, but it doesn't do any real change in fact because I still have to make the site compatible for Internet explorer (grrr...) Even though there are little things that will be better displayed with Firefox (buttons...) But the next version of IE is coming, and should handle the buttons I've added more like Firefox. ("hover" function added)

I however will go a completely different route with the next version of terrasco.net . We're planning to create something like an "online-desktop", customizable to the user... well, so that the user can change the wallpaper, toolbar and taskbar styles, add favorites (kinda like the current favorites feature we have) and personal links that would match certain topics offered at our site. With that concept, table layouting will fall pretty much into the background and decrease page loading time anyways.
The tricky part to it is now that I have to retrieve informations about the users operating systems and browsers. HTTP_USER_AGENT isn't really trustworthy there, so that I have to do that with JavaScripts, which request those informations before the user actually sees the page content. And if you want to assign JS values to PHP, that requires some very intelligent scripts, specially because you need to switch to a script-free mode, in case a JS incapable Browser connects to your site.
EDIT: What I wonder about IE7, that's if it finally can handle gradient transparent *.png files. It sucks always to filter out browser engines and to create an additional images set, just to set the file extension to *.gif.

Yes, IE7 do support transparency with PNG files. That's another big improvement. Although I wouldn't personally use PNG before a few years, to keep a maximum compatibility.

Well, exactly for that reason I write a console to determine what possibilities the user's OS offers me. For IE, no matter what version it is, it simply switches to gif.
