Well in my opinion, I think Dusty was interesting enough the way she was.
I mean, if she were given more screen time, she might have taken the spotlight that was meant for Balto and Kodi (duh, why else would they be on the cover?). She's just a sled dog on Kodi's team, as are Kirby and Ralph. Their personalities only help add conflict to Kodi's struggle to be like his father (remember the scene where Dusty and Co. start talking to Balto about him "helping the enemy" (the pilot)? You can tell that Kodi is going through one of those times where he thinks the team is right. Then (after Jenna's intervention) he realizes that his father was right and that he was only giving into the peer pressure of his sledmates.).
Yes, it would have been nice if she were more developed (like if we knew how she got her looks from and all), but let's leave that part to the fanfic writers, okay? To me, she's just a minor character that, if she was given more screen time, would have shifted the main focus of the entire movie. Her main purpose was to be a part of the sled team and a companion for Kodi and the others. That's all.
I prefer the mysteries of her (and the other) characters. It allows us (fans, fic writers, etc.) more things to write about and all.

Thanks, tibb_wolf! I just thought about it and realized that making a minor character so important changes the movie entirely, mainly because of certain things that they do.
For example: If it wasn't for Stella, Boris wouldn't have been on-board the bush plane in the first place - meaning no character development of Kodi (with the whole situation with his father), no development of the true motive of the other sled dogs (such as them not caring about the life of the pilot and all - of course, they didn't know a thing about Boris in the plane), and no real emotions from the bears, Balto, and of course . . . the love bird herself.
Yeah. The little things can make or break a movie. Even a kiddified Balto sequel too.

Maybe a little, but it probably would take away from the major point of the film. (Plus don't forget the slight Dusty/Ralph hint. )
But think about it: the whole Boris-Stella romance took up a major part of the film (and most fans hate Stella, it seems), so . . . do I really need to say anything else about that? ^__^
The small hints of a possible Kodi-Dusty romance were cute though. (Yay, Kodi/Dusty!)

I agree with several people that have posted. Yes, expanding on Dusty's character might have taken away from the main point of the film but considering that the Boris/Stella thing already did that and wasn't that popular with a lot of people, me included they were pretty mismatched in my opinion, a Dusty/Kodi angle would of been a far more popular choice. I also think that a love angle between Dusty and Kodi could of given the film a bit more of the feeling the first film had, like what happened with Balto and Jenna in the first film. In otherwords, yes I agree, she should of been a main character.

Honestly? No. I mean, why? What makes her so special? I guess that would mean that Kirby and Ralph needed more time too, and in the first movie, Steele's trio. In WQ, Niju's.
A character like Dusty is not vital to the plot at all, certainly not as a love interest. That's one of the things I liked about both sequels, there was no inclination that neither Kodi nor Aleu was romantically interested in anyone. Plus Dusty's already with Ralph (sorry, Kodi/Dusty shippers, but it's true).
She's a random dog. Yay.

Oh Gawd... Dusty needed WAY more, Stella ruined the entire movie. Why did they even think to make Boris, who is supposed to be the annoying character get the girl. Now we are having an entire depate on who Dusty likes thanks to Stella.

Yes. In fact, there should have been more time focusing on the entire mail team. Kodi deserved more attention in the movie. Instead, we got Stella and that just ruined the movie for me.

Stella was a completely useless character, and was given far too much unnecessary screen time. the sled team should've definetely got a little more screen-time. Particuarly Dusty and Ralph. the director said himself that he wanted to give them more screen-time together, but didn't get a chance to. probably because a lot of it was wasted on Stella.
