YAY! I'm a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli movie fan too!
My faves are:
- Pom Poko (a "save the environment" type of tale, but with tanuki (raccoon dogs from Japan that are believed to have magical tranforming powers) . . . and some violent parts.)
- Castle in the Sky (aka Laputa) (flying castle in the sky, magical floating powers, and pirates. yay for pirates.)
- Howl's Moving Castle (awesome movie; handsome wizard, a castle that moves, and a powerful curse. Sounds like Harry Potter, but it isn't.)
- Spirited Away (WOW. I can't describe this really. Magic, a curse, a growing journey in a magical place . . . . does that work?)
- Princess Mononoke (A girl that lives with wolves and a cursed man that meets her. Gosh, I need to watch this again . . . or buy the DVD.)
- My Neighbor Totoro (Now with two releases out: the Fox release (English Dubbed only) and the recent release (now with an English redub and the original Japanese version) - check them out! Magical spirits and two adorable sisters. yep, that's it.)
- Kiki's Delivery Service (Probably the first Miyazaki film I ever saw! A 13 year old witch grows up in a faraway town. 'Nuff said.)
Gah, I can't think of anymore that I've seen . . . . but I love them all. I want to see more Miyazaki (like Whisper of the Heart and its "sequel", The Cat Returns, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, and any other ones that I haven't mentioned . . . . whee.)!

Oh, I've heard about that. It sounds good so far!

Wow, where do I begin with how much I love Miyazaki-san's movies? I watched the "Month of Miyazaki" on Turner Classic Movies, and it rocked! It's a lot better than Cartoon Network's version of M.O.M. cause there's no commercials.
Let's see, I've watched Princess Mononoke (first one I watched), Castle in the Sky, Porrco Rosso, My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Pom Poko.....hmmmm there's another one I'm forgetting....I'll think of it later.

Nausicaa was a very good movie in my opinion. I liked the story line and characters. Unfortunately, since it was his first movie, he seemed to have a limited budget and all the music is digital-computer whatever it's called.
Porrco Rosso was also a good one, but he ran out of time or something and the ending kinda sucked. Which is really sad because up till the end that movie was awesome.

I am a miyazaki dork also XD. Pom Poko I have yet to watch that along with Porco Rosso, i get them two confused together.
Nausicca I think seemed low budget but I think the movie was made in the 1980's or something, It looked pretty well budgetted to me, except for some of the techno music which was kinda weird.

Rainfeather wrote: MAN! I've only seen four of his movies. My Blockbuster doesn't have them, and they're expensive to buy over the net. This makes me sigh largly. What IS Pom Poko about?
Ummm, a bunch of tanuki (raccoon dogs . . . or just plain "raccoons" as they're called in the dub) are being threated by the development of their habitat, thanks to humans. So they decide to do something about it. I don't want to give anything away, but it's a great movie (hopefully you don't mind the fact that the males show their . . . *cough*parts*cough* but they are used in Japanese religion and mythology with their "magical powers and such.
Still, it's good. Some parts may make you cry too . . . wah.

Yep, I agree that he is good, I like his style alot, but I also think the colors in his movie could be more striking (say a bit more like Disney movies) I think maybe it's just a style that he uses photographic lighting for most of the backgrounds in his movie, but some more color would be nice IMO. XD

I thought that was just your typical anime...??? Most anime movies (Not just Miyazaki's) I've seen are like that...

XP,Yeah, photographic lighting ain't that interesting. But IMO many animes really suck. Especially the magical school girl ones.
