Not trying to be mean to the posters, but falling into the frigid waters of a frozen river, lake or other body is extremely dangerous, and usually deadly. I used to fall into a frozen pond at least once a year (long, and very stupid, story). Obviously it didn't kill me, but I can attest that even with the water being only about waist deep and easy to escape, it was not fun. I don't even want to think about falling into a lake.

Falling bodily into water that is 50 degrees Fahrenheit (or below) can be deadly. And approaching 40 degrees or less, definitely so. It doesn't take long for hypothermia to chill the body to a dangerous level...which leads to lethargy and then unconsciousness. Wet winter clothes are weighed down by ice and water, and pull you down. And if you don't go from the sinking of your core body temperature, you go from drowning. Not very pretty. And why it shouldn't be considered a source for cheap laughs. There are plenty of incidentally funny moments (intentional or not) from the three movies. But this wasn't one of them. A few links. The latter two offer advice on surviving a fall into icy waters, but also enumerate the deadly dangers. http://www.ktvn.com/story/27794743/two-boys-pulled-from-small-icy-south-reno-lake112http://www.artofmanliness.com/2014/02/07/how-to-survive-falling-through-the-ice-an-illustrated-guide/http://outdoors.stackexchange.com/questions/3115/how-to-be-safe-on-lake-and-river-ice-and-what-should-i-do-when-i-fall-through

First of all, I hope you realize that I'm not picking on you. But I agree with Mighty's earlier comment. It's not all that funny. The concept does not change simply because it's animated. And that scene doesn't play at all in a funny way (Muk and Luk notwithstanding...and even they, in that scene, are not being slapstick funny, but manage a bit of heroism). It's not funny. Also, I believe you messed up the quoting process when you responded. Some of what I said looks like stuff you said. Please be more careful.

I didn't realise the quoting messed up. I know the scene wasn't intended to be funny its just how Balto looks in that particular shot. We have all got opinions. Not everyone is going to find it funny, that's fair enough.

I have not seen this movie. What I found interesting in this thread is that apparently there were two dogs, one named Muk and the other Luk. Leonhard Seppala had a dog with him during his nationwide tour whose name was MukLuk. I'm wondering if the producers of the applicable cartoon movie used that name and made it into two dogs? Or was it just a coincidence?

Or was it just a coincidence? The characters in the movie were polar bears, and it's possible that they might have been named for the historical dog. On the other hand, MukLuk is the name of a kind of footwear which, I believe, is well-suited to that climate. So either possibility seems reasonable. I am pretty certain it was the latter instance.
