Christy made a faint groan.Christy calmed down after they were done breeding."Well,Now we're going to have pups.."Christy said looking at Chevek.Christy smiled.Christy stood up and balanced herself.She was a little unbalanced from being crouched down for so long.

Chevek smiled and stood up as well. "Let's head back to the den. "Chevek said walking alongside Christy. The next few days, Christy was pregnant. A few weeks later, Christy gave birth to seven puppies. Outside the den, below the den ledge was the pack. Since Christy was at the back of the den, Chevek, pacing back and forth on the ledge, couldn't see her. When the sun was right above the den, Chevek heard tiny, short crys echoing off the walls of the den. Slowly making his way into the den, Chevek could barely see the light colored fur of his mate gleaming from the little light that passed through little holes in the den. Inching closer, Chevek saw Christy and seven pups. Chevek smiled at her, and the pups. Four boys, and three girs. "What are their names?" He asked as Christy pointed to a little male pup that had golden fur. "This one is Bolster. "She then pointed to a white pup, inherited from her. It was another male pup. "This one's name is Acosta. "She smiled and pointed to the third pup. Female." Her name is Breeza." She smiled once more and pointed to the other two males. "The one on the left is Zeff, and the one on the right is Zach." Chevek looked at them. Zach was a white pup, and Zeff was all black. "You can name the other girls." Christy lolked up at Chevek who was astounded.

"I'll name the black one, Mimi, and the brown and white one,Maggie." Chevek smiled. Mimi and Maggie would be Chevek's girls.

Christy smiled."Now we are a father..and a mother."Christy said.Christy licked the seven pups.Christy was a bit tired."I'm going to go take a nap for a bit."Christy said.She wrapped her tail around the seven newborn pups.Christy closed her eyes and drifted off the sleep.She was asleep for about an hour.Christy woke up and she was hungry."Chevek dear,I'm hungry and the pups might be starving."She said.

Chevek smiled." Have a nice nap?" He asked as Akia walked in and sat next to Chevek. "Christy's a bit hungry, would you mind going on a short hunt with me and find something for her?" Chevek looked at Akia. "Sure, let's go. There's a herd of elk not far from here. We'll go there and see what we can do. I'll get some of the betas ready." Akia smiled and trotted away. Chevek stood up and walked away. He turned his head and looked at Christy, "Love you, be back in a bit." He said leaping off the den ledge and sprinting away with the betas and Akia. 39 minutes later, Chevek and Akia came into the den dragging an elk. Letting it drop to the floor of the den, Chevek nudged the elk closer to Christy. "Eat up." He smiled. Akia smiled, too.

Christy ate some of the elk.Christy fully digested the food.The pups started to eat by drinking their mother's milk.Christy was with the pups keeping them warm.Small,Cute,but vulnerable,Christy didn't want her pups to get sick or hurt.Nor to die.

A few months later, Chevek's pups were able to play and run around. Chevek watched as his pups rolled around in the grass play fighting. He enjoyed watched them. Sitting down next to Chevek, Akia smiled."Looks like they're havin fun." He said laughing and running out with them. "Uncle Akia!" The pups shouted as Akia rolled on his back and the pups piled onto him. Chevek laughed and rolled his eyes at his pups, and his new overgrown pup. "Nicely done Mimi!" Chevek laughed as she pulled on Akia's ear.

Christy walked out of the den.Christy walked into the forest alone.She went to a river where she normally goes to refresh herself."Finally,Some refreshments."Christy said.Christy lowered her head and drank some of the water.She then saw a fish pass by.Then another,and another,and another.Christy caught one of the fishes with her claws.Christy grabbed the fish with her teeth and took it back to the den.

Chevek walked into the den carrying two fish in his mouth. He let them drop to the ground. "Oh, I see you caught your own fish for dinner." Chevek smiled and took one of the fish to Akia. He came back, lyed down in front of Christy, and ate the fish he had left on the ground." Tastes good, yours?" Chevek asked looking at Christy with flesh and blood on his muzzle and nose. Licking his nose, Chevek continued to eat what was left of the fish. Picking up the carcass, he went outside and dropped it onto the ground. Walking back in, Chevek sat behind Christy licking her head. Chevek stopped when he heard Akia warning the pack then running into the den. "Sir, the hunters are back." Akia said with his muscles tense and Chevek's pups ran in to their mother." Momy, I'm scared. " Breeza whined.

"Breeza,Everything will be okay don't worry."Christy said as she covered her pups.Christy covered the pups with her tail and her fur."Mom....I'm really scared.."Breeza said.Christy licked Breeza's forehead.

Chevek looked worried. The hunters were back, and Christy has had pups. Chevek wasn't going to give up without a fight. "Akia, get the Betas, Alphas, and Deltas ready to fight. I warn the Omegas to stay near the den with Christy." Chevek said sprinting off with Akia. "I need the Alphas, Betas, and Deltas to prepare the fight." Akia barked. "I need the Omegas to stay with Christy." Chevek growled. He ran back into the den, and talked to Christy. "I'll be back. The Omegas will stay with you and the pups." Chevek said licking Christy's forehead and sprinting off again. "Akia, take us to the area you saw them." Chevek barked as Akia turned to him. " Roger that." Akia said as he ran, Chevek quickly caught up with him. Once they reached the spot, the pack saw two dogs with a hunter. Chevek ran after the hunter. The human saw him and commanded his dogs after him. "Get him Steele, get him Balto!" He yelled as Akia ran by Chevek's side. Steele lunged for Akia. Akia grabbed Steele's collar in his mouth and pulled. Balto attacked Chevek. Chevek, baring his teeth, grabbed Balto's scruff and bit harder. Worried, the hunter called his dogs back to the truck. With out a gun to defend himself, the hunter was vulnerable for attack.

Christy was worried about Chevek."Chevek...Please be okay.."Christy thought.Breeza,Mimi,and Maggie were hidden in their mother's fur.Bolster,Zach,and Zeff were covered by their mother's tail fur."Mom..Where is dad..?"Bolster said as he looked up from his mother's tail."Don't worry bolster.Dad will come soon."Christy said.

Akia let out a howl. Back at the den, Christy stopped worrying as the howl was heard. Ten minutes later, Chevek and the pack returned. The Betas and Deltas went out hunting, and Chevek jumped onto the ledge. He came with blood on his muzzle. Akia came into the den looking like Chevek only cream colored. Licking their chops, Akia layed down and closed his eyes. When dinner was over, the pack gathered in the den and slept. Akia slept close to Christy, keeping her warm along with the pups. Chevek, on the other hand, sat at the ledge of the rock, fur blowing in the light wind. His eyes shimmered in the light made by the stars gathered together. Chevek layed down and hung his paws down from the edge. "The night is like a dagger. Long and cold and sharp." He said to him self in a soft, voice. He sang it really. But softly.
