I remember seeing him on a makeshift bed and rising from it in an alley during a scene of Wings Of Change. Plus, I do remember that he had flies circling over his head in another scene.

Same thing I told JerseyCaptain. FireFox9 wrote: I remember seeing him on a makeshift bed and rising from it in an alley during a scene of Wings Of Change. As much as that is true, that doesn't mean he is a stray or smelly either. If you think he is a stray, fine, that's your opinion. But don't go and use it as a fact either. But you know? If you're going to call Ralph a stray, then I guess that means Dusty and Kirby are too.

Even then, I highly doubt any musher would just continuously use a pack of stray dogs on his team LOL Tho if they'd have bothered drawing harnesses on them, it'd be a better understand of whether or not they were all owned by Simpson.

There are also mosquitoes in Alaska, but flies are a bit more rare there; B. No dog that is on a team is ever homeless. Many dogs in Nome back then (and even now) often wander loose in and around town. The citizens have come to accept it as part of the whole experience.

I personally think that the dogs belong to Mr. Simpson. Even though we see a child adopting Kodi in Balto II.

If I were a member of the team behind WQ and WoC, I could argue that Simpson and Kodi "grew up together" but biologically speaking it wouldn't work cuz that would make Kodi at least 7 or 8 years old on WoC and we all know how unlikely that is LOL And we see Dusty on a balcony, so he either rents a space, has enough inheritance to own a two-story house, or rents his dogs xD I imagine mushers in that time using strays once in a while, but only if they're like completely desperate, but even then I don't know how likely that would be.

This one: This kid reappears very briefly in the opening scenes of Wings of Change hugging Kodi after the team returns with the mail...and is definitely an Eskimo kid. To wit: Is it proof? Is it canon? No...just my own speculation and a plausible answer. If the boy adopted Kodi, it is a reasonable leap of logic to conclude that Mr. Simpson, being his father and a musher/mail carrier (under my own interpretations of that character and the boy above), would put the dog to good use as a member of his team.
catwhohas14tails wrote: I imagine mushers in that time using strays once in a while, but only if they're like completely desperate, but even then I don't know how likely that would be. Nope. In all my readings and research from the time period, and of mushers themselves who spoke on the issue of dogs used on their teams, these guys took great pride in the dogs they used, and were strictly selective about which dogs they chose. They either owned and raised them themselves, or drove a team owned by someone whom they knew, worked for, or were close friends with (or were related to). No musher worth his salt would risk taking a dog onto his team he didn't know by reputation, the status of the dog's health, and its history. I've never seen anything in writings of the time period (or since) which would contradict that. Just FYI.
