Erf...I totally agree with Kovu. Some of you COULD be telling the truth, but hey, it's the internet. How do we know? Yeah, you can say you'd beat up people who mistreated an animal, but I highly doubt it. And also, by hurting the person who hurt an animal, you are just making yourself as bad as them. And to the question, hell, I don't know! I've never been in that situation! I have to be there first. And when and if I am, I'll tell you what I'd do...

But you see... By "saving" that rabbit you might have killed a bunch of kittens. Or made life worse for the cat. By helping the rabbit, you don't help the cat. By not helping the rabbit you don't do anything- you leave natural things be. Humans have messed a lot into natural things, and here come endangered animals and overpopulated ones that get shot.
Back to the question:
Depends. If it's naturally hurt or lost it's parent I wouldn't lay a finger on it, this includes another wilder attacking another animal even if a baby one (this goes for wildlife).
If it's a pet lets say hit by a car or in a trap, I'd go fight for it 100%. It always depends. But then again in many times you must know first aid for different circumstances and different animals. Of you don't, many times it is better to not touch it and call a vet or someone who knows.

if any animal was in trouble, i would do anything in my power to save it. but one thing that happened this morning was an exception; i couldn't do anything to help that poor rabbit...
Well, here's the rabbit's story. I was walking to the bus-stop when I saw something in the middle of the sidewalk. I thought it was just a pile of leaves or something, but when I got closer, I saw it was a bunny. It couldn't move its back legs, and it was all beaten up. I guessed that it was attacked by either a dog or a cat, and I felt really sorry for it (I'm obsessed with animals, so whenever I see one in pain, it tears at my heartstrings). I picked it up and took it to the bus-stop, hoping some kid might have a cell phone so we could call Animal Control. Luckily, someone did have a cell phone, so we called Animal Control, and then the bus pulled up as we were talking to the person. So, even though I didn't want to, I had to put the poor little rabbit down, and hope it would still be there when I got back from school. I spent the whole day worrying about it, and I could barely concentrate at school. When the bus pulled up, I saw the outline of it, so I was happy, but when I got closer, I saw that the poor thing had froze to death. It's still outside on the bus-stop. I wish there was something that I could have done to help it...

my answer is : depends. I totally agree with Kovu. If the animal is in danger by naturally I'd leave it. If I save a rabbit from a cat , a lot of kittens might die. so I'd let it be. If the dangers is by man. the answer is still depends. If I have to risk myself for it I'd not do it. how do I know? It is the instinct. once I saw a stray dog run pass by my car at a very fast speed I can't stop the car or the car behind me would crash right in my car pretty hard. but the dog just U-turn and got hit by the other car. I feel pretty shock and sorry for it. But I couldn't do anything. and I know it might be dead. becuase it kicked its legs like it's really hurt. I can't stand to watch. so I turn away...That a really sad story that happen to me.

I suppose, firstly it depends what animal it is. If it was just a dog or a cat then I'd firstly access the situation to see whether I'd be putting myself at risk. If the animal is in distress it is likely to be aggressive without meaning. However, if the animal was something much larger such as a horse or cattle - this is the kind of animal I'm most likely to come across in my area - then I'd be a lot more wary. I'd probably call someone such as a vet or the farmer.
Back to the subject of dog/cat if the animal didn't seem aggressive and appeared friendly or submissive I'd approach but since I don't have any knowledge of vetinary skills I'd call a vet if it seemed seriously injured.

I don't think that makes you a coward Clay.
If a large animal (esp aggressive) is hurt or in trouble it is just plain stupid to try and physically help it YOURSELF. But you can always help by calling the appropriate people with experience.
Saying you saved a bunny or something isn't really risking your life. I do it to because house cats generally only play/torture them and not eat them. I feel bad for the poor little animals. Sure I've gotten a few good bites from mice and such but it's a small price to pay...
I do what I can, when I can. I have never left a hurt animal on the side of the road or whatever. I have nursed a family of shrews to try and give them a start. I'd risk a good bite or worse for smaller animals such as foxes or racoons but that's not risking my life.
