"Gotta go," Jessica said to Sky and gave him a quick pat on the nose. "See you tomorrow, Skyline." With that, she put the brush up and, closing the stall door, left the stable.

Inside, Skyline watched her leave. The horse sighed and walked over to the corner to munch idly on the pile of hay his rider left him everyday.

Alex obeyed and sat beside Hailey. "It was alright," he replied. "I was just cleaning out the stables and making sure the horses were all good. Y'know, the usual."

"Cracker," Spitfire called out as she walked up to the stallion. She'd awaken a few minutes earlier and saw him standing away from the hers.

Cracker Jack blinked, snapping himself back to reality and looked at the buckskin Kiger. "What is it?" he asked.

Hailey looks at him.."Oh,"She said.."Umm...I..."She stopped and did not finish the sentence.

Alex looked at her and titled his head a little. A faint smile danced across his face as he asked, "What's up?", referring to when Hailey had stopped talking.

"Why are you so far over there?" Spitfire asked, stopping only a few feet from the male. She knew how Crackers felt about being near the herd and all, but she asked anyway.

Hailey looks at him."Nothing."

Alex shrugged and got off the couch. "I uh, gotta go and make sure the other horses have...hay," he said, hoping that Hailey wouldn't see past his lie. As he walked out the door, he couldn't help but think that, more than likely, she did.

Hailey sighed and laid down on the couch.

Alex quickly walked out the door.

"Nothing," Cracker Jack said and looked down at a small, dried patch of grass by his hooves.

Hailey slept..............................................

"There's got to be a reason," Spitfire pushed, a frown upon her face. "Why aren't you with the herd? Is it that we aren't good enough for you, Crackers?"

In front of her, the older male horse let out a loud snort. Without speaking another word, he turned and broke into a gallop toward the meadow.

Spitfire watched him go, wanting to give chase; she wasn't done asking questions nor had she received an answer for her previously asked one. "Males," the horse muttered.
