Erika smiled at Jaylin. Than she whispered in Jaylin's ear," What about Chessie? She doesn't have her horse here yet." Erika bit her lip lightly. She than looked at Chessie. If Jaylin wanted to go on riding without Chessie, maybe she could wait at the ranch and hang out and look around. But what if Chessie got mad? Well, she would see.

Jaylin nodded slightly. "Kamia can do doubles. I have a double rider saddle." She whispered to Erika, then turning to Chessie. "We were just about to out riding so my horses could get to know the area. Would you like to come?" She invited, trying to sound polite. The wind blew her black curls in her face, Jaylin quickly brushed them away. "This girl here can carry two, but be carefull. She's sassy with an attidtude!" The white arabian snorted and flicker her tail, hitting Jaylin. Laughing, She patted Kamia's side to praise her.

Chessie gave both horse and rider a cautious look.

"You're CERTAIN that she's gentle?", she inquired, and when Jaylin said "Yes!", the indulged teen sighed weightily.

"Umm, I think that I'll just look around the indoor arena while you're out riding," she said lazily, looking about for the arena. She was NOT going to go out onto a trail with some strange horse! She'd been brought up to expect better, to expect only the BEST, and she was not going to pander to unruly offers of adventure, no matter how kindly extended they might be.

Erika looked at Jaylin and said," Okay, well we'll just be out riding for a little while." Erika grabbed Jaylin by the hand and pulled her over to a spot where Chessie couldn't hear. "So, I was thinking for when we go on our ride, we can go to the meadow," Erika said to Jaylin. "I've never been there, but I've heard from a lot of people it's beautiful! So how about it? Should we go there? Oh, and we can do all kinds of stuff while we're there. Fishing, riding, picking up flowers, anything!" Erika hoped Jaylin would say yes.

Pulling the large doors open with an effort, Chessie took a deep breath. Stepping onto the dirt, which was perfectly rippled, and flattened, in just the right way, the wealthy teenager circled her toe about, laughing indulgently.

As she walked around, staring at the walls, Chessie twisted a golden brown curl about her finger, dreaming of somebody, wishing that they could be alone, here, right now.

Within her mind, she saw herself with him, walking right here, within this room, talking in voices that became more heavy, and more velvety, with every passing moment. Leaning up against the wall, she closed her eyes, trying to imagine exactly what he looked like, trying to take in the entire expanse of the fantasy that was filling her mind.

"Yes, of COURSE!", she murmured to the wall, arching her chest ever so slightly. "I AGREE!"

Walking away dazedly, she sat down on the powdery ground, arching her chest again, and then laying down with a fanciful sigh. Moving slightly in the cocoa-hued dust, she breathed like one mesmerized, and she wondered, yet again, about the identity of the mystery man who was inspiring her daydreams.

"Well, Yeah. Lets go there!" Jaylin said as she went in the trailer to get her bow. "I hope you don't mind, Erika, I brought my bow." She slid it out of a black, zipper case which held her camouflage recurve bow. "Would you care if I brought it along and go bow fishing? I've never tried it before.. You can try too."

Tethered to the trailer, Uncle Kracker stared getting anxious and annoyed with all the waiting. He kicked the trailer, wanting to go running already. "Lets go! Let's go!" He would say if horses could talk.

Jaylin peeked outside with the trailer and smiled at the red roan arabian. "Hush, Its okay, We're going soon!" She coaxed.

Erika looked at Jaylin, than the bow. "Of course!" she exclaimed. "When I was younger, I always wanted to go bow-fishing, but my parents wouldn't let me." Erika sighed, remembering the memories. "And one thing my parents didn't let me have was a boyfriend, and now I still don't have a boyfriend." Erika shook her head. "We should probably going. Am I riding Kamia?"

Whining fairly loudly, Chessie wriggled slightly in the powdery dirt, relishing her fantasy too much.

"Never leave me!", she gasped, whimpering, believing in every image that filled her mind. Rolling over in the cocoa powder that lay beneath her, she giggled, allowing her laughter to end in a plaintive whine.

When she rolled over again, she began to relax. The scent of light dirt and denim took over, and she delighted in just being here, in this indoor arena, with silence and imagination to keep her company.

"Yeah, You're riding Kamia. I'll have to clip her lead to the bridle and lead you. She's fairly skiddish with new riders." Jayling said throwing the quiver of arrows over her shoulder. She flared her nostrils and took a deep breath whe she stepped out of the trailer.

"Now, Kamia.. You better be gentle when Erika rides you! Or no apples for you tonight!" Jaylin smiled and stroked her neck. The white arabian tossed her head and snorted. "Good girl, Now you be good!"

She gestured Erika up on the horse and gave her the reins. The lead was still tied to the trailer and she clipped it to the bridle. "Alright stay there, I'll untie you once I'm ready to go."

Uncle Kracker kept on kicking the trailer, wanting to go. Now. Jaylin climbed up in the saddle and rode him in a tight circle before untieing and leading Kamia and Erika away.

Erika felt a little nervous a top this beautiful mare, but she knew that Jaylin was leading her, and it would be okay. Erika took a deep breath and relaxed. She felt as if she couldn't talk, but kept taking deep big breaths and started getting the hang of it. "This is awesome!" Erika exclamied. "Thanks so much, Jaylin!"

"Its nothing, really." Jaylin said, gripping the bow tighter and reining Uncle Kracker around the trailer. "You wanna lope? Keep one hand on the saddle horn and hold the reins in the other. Heels down, just try stay balanced. I'm leading you, Kamia knows better than to run ahead." She kicked Uncle Kracker up into a faster trot, waiting for Erika's response.

"Uh," Erika looked down, nervously. "Sure! Why not?" She chuckled. She had never loped before, but perhaps she could give it a try. She put one hand on the saddle horn, and one hand on the reins. She took a deep breath. "I'm ready!" She looked at Jaylin.

"Flora! Where ARE you?"

Chessie bolted into a sitting position, her vaguely Zhivago-romantic, totally forbidden dream interrupted.

"Who's THERE?", she demanded, her baby blue eyes attractively wide, arrested by fear. She had DEFINITELY heard a voice...HADN'T she?

"Who ARE you?", she asked, gasping at how closely her question mirrored the question that had permeated the air just seconds ago.

A rustle of something made Chessie flinch; she could just about have jumped out of her skin. Holding her arms self-protectively, she glared about.

"I...I have a lot of MONEY," she snarled, "but if YOU think that YOU'RE going to get ANY of it just for OBEYING me by agreeing to go AWAY..."

" Flora, Darling! PLEASE don't walk away! I'll DIE if you LEAVE me!"


"NO!" Shrinking, curling inward slightly, the wealthy young woman tried to hold back the sobs that were trying to overtake her.

"PLEASE come back, Joseph! I NEED you! I need you...right...NOW!" Gritting her teeth, Chessie prayed for a miracle of safety.

The rustling noise came closer, until Chessie could no longer bear to hear its rhythmic music. She curled up on her side in the powder-light dirt, finally sobbing for mercy.

"Flora, Darling! If you LEAVE, we'll BOTH end up on the ward, and YOU'LL lose, TOO, because they want us BOTH!"


"Be QUIET! Shut UP, you INGRATE! I'll have you IMPOUNDED for this malicious behavior!"

"Get your HORSE, Flora Quintessa, and LEAVE this place with me...right NOW, before they CATCH us TOGETHER again!"

The stranger's voice sounded softly, and Chessie sat up, drying her tears.

"Alright," she sighed, "but where IS my horse?"

The silent, empty arena refused to answer the spoiled girl, and she looked about, confused, before letting her tears settle upon her uplifted knees.

NOTE: Nobody else has to play an actual character here, with regards to the voice, but it would be totally cool if you could tell me which scenario you think should explain Chessie's weird behavior:

1.) She's simply insane.
2.) Either her boyfriend, or somebody from her family, has sent her to the ranch with drugs, so that she'll do anything that they want her to do.
3.) The chauffeur is either drugging her, or he's messing with her mind.
4.) She has never been told that she suffered some brain damage during a horse-riding incident that occurred when she was a small child.

Jaylin kicked her horse and he gradually sped up untill they were at the perfect pace. Kamia stayed back and would ocasionally come side by side with Uncle Kracker and Jaylin.

"See? Its not much slower than galloping, Its like jogging." Jaylin said, looking back at Erika.

NOTE: Since nobody has replied to my question, I'm choosing Option #4. I think that it makes sense to say that Chessie's brain was damaged due to a childhood horseback riding accident...

Gathering her thoughts, the wealthy teenager stood up. Without considering her tear-streaked face, she raced from the indoor arena, looking about for the other girls. How DARE they play games with me?, she thought, breathing heavily as she FINALLY smoothed her hair.

"HEY!", she called angrily. "You're GOING to answer for your actions EVENTUALLY!"

Breathing more quickly, Chessie began crying, her furious tears streaking her face.

"BRATS!", she cried, taking off at a dead run, then stopping in order to find the sounds of the other girls' voices through the sounds of her own heavy heartbeat.

"YOU'LL be sorry!" Taking off again, she nearly tripped, and she stopped to think about where the others had gone. When she finally considered the trailer, she took off at an insane pace, hoping that her guess was right. When the other girls were in view, she forced herself to catch up to them, running with a speed that nearly surprised even her.

"HEY!", she cried, just as the girls were about to run past her on their horses. "I need to SPEAK to you!" Chessie ran until she was directly beside the first horse, which, because of her awkward positioning, very nearly collided with her.

"I need to speak to BOTH of you...NOW!" demanded Chessie, glaring up at two shocked, gasping girls who clearly thought that she'd gone completely looney toons.
