I know people who prefer downloading to buying because it's free. Doesn't matter if they like the band or not. I say, if you like or love a band, support them! Buy their CDs or pay and download from iTunes and the like. Don't pirate them. -_- I've bought albums where I dont necessarily like every song on it but think of it this way, you may very well like it. Musicians get more support out of CDs than nonsense sites like Itunes. You cant fully know if you like the song or not through just a 30-sec demo, so remember to use Youtube.

I'm going to tell you all a story.
When I went through AIT, there were several portable community hard-drives going around that had all sorts of media on them. I didn't have time for films, but I snapped up four CD's from my favorite band when I saw them on there. No cost to me, of course.
I had only heard a couple of songs from the band prior, but I liked them very much. All of their albums grew on me.
Flash forward to a couple of nights ago, several months after I had essentially pirated their music. When I checked out the band's page to see what was happening. I learned that they had released a new single from their upcoming album over the radio, and put up the single for purchase on their website. Unfortunately, several youtube videos containing the single also had a download attached to them, allowing for viewers to download the band's new single for free.
Using twitter and facebook, the band pleaded for support. Keep in mind that this band is an independent band from Helsinki, Finland. They are relatively unknown in the other parts of the world, and have to finance everything themselves using their own label.
When I realized how much their music meant to me, I bought all four of their albums (ones I already had) direct from their website in one night; 85 percent of the payment actually went to the band. On top of that, each purchase allowed me to download both MP3 and FLAC versions of the song at no extra charge.
I'm not sure how it goes with CD sales, but that seems like a hefty percentage for a per-album basis. I would love to have purchased the CD's online, but since they were limited in printings, the prices are heavily inflated via amazon, with new copies costing upwards of 50 dollars a piece. Not only that, but that money goes straight to the seller; NOT the band.
Buying music online can be just as advantageous as a CD purchase, but it depends largely on the band/label in question. I wouldn't knock either, as long as you actually purchase the music.

I always use YouTube. I did when I wanted Disturbed CDs. The only time I use demos is like recently when I KNEW I wanted a Sherlock Holmes OST, but didn't know which to get first, so the demos helped me decide.

I buy loads of cd's still! I got about 6 albums on saturday! Because my low paid paper round money was issued Ermm .. let me think I gotttt -Slipknot ... the album with Psychosocial on it ... my fav slipknot song! <3 THE PRESERVATION OF THE MATYR IN MEEEEEE -2 Creed albums - Alter Bridge - One day remains - Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare (favourite band ) - Taking Dawn - Time to Burn ... if you havent heard these guys you need to check them out fast, they are some good metal Yeah so I buy a lot of cd's still, I dont like downloading because I prefer to have the album in real life and being album to put the music on full volume in my sound system I dont really buy individual tracks of the cd, I usually just end up loving the entire cd ... maybe that happens with metal Although I do have a habit of using you tube converter for film soundtracks, although I do have both Lion King cds .. them I just burn a compilation album of them, its so much easier! Ohh and I also LOVE disturbed ... I need to get Aslyum!

Im glad I intreged you! For a debt the standard is really good! Although you can hear all their influences in the music ... I think the only thing they're lacking is a distinct style, but otherwise they have everything ... watch this space I need to get Asylum !! I have indestructible ... I think you can get them off amazon, and hmv have everything, hahahaa <3 Good music taste btw ^^
