And that's quite alright. I understand your frustration. But again, different mods, different knowledge of the rules. Okay, because I've tried to resubmit my once-deactivated pieces that DID still have an official Balto character in it, along with a fox [which should be allowed, since WQ featured a fox and they do live in Alaska, so REALISTIC.] and a wolf, yet neither of them have been accepted. On this, I'll just wait until Steet's Word of God is made into BS [Balto Source] law before I either try again or just leave it for the forums only, as that is the only place where ANYTHING is allowed [as long as it's not sexual or real graphic, but you knew that]. - Juuchan17

And it would be great if one of you moderators or one of the site builders (whoever can acess it) change/add or note the complete rules on the rules page you get to see when sending an image. So everyone can easily see what´s allowed and what not.

Don't worry, Jordan. It seems like they are noticing the importance of this situation for the site... and are working on doing something about it, for the members' sake. I'll be patient for the time being, only because I can be. Of course, Steet may make the rules, but that's only half of it; I hope that the mods can also follow all of the rules that he sets as well. If they all moderate fairly, then we can all enjoy the site fairly, both render artists and gallery viewers. That is all I really want in the end. - Juuchan17

- Juuchan17 Indeed. And on an other note it is that none of our moderators got all "Renders aren´t art, they shouldn´t even be allowed on the site!" like a few of our former moderators. Sure we didn´t draw them entirely but that´s why they go to fanIMAGES not fanART. And besides, who doesn´t like them doesn´t have to look at them. It´s a good thing that the mods acted reasonable this time and tried to find a solution. Finally a problem that can be fixed without much drama.

Eh, some people make their own linearts from scratch and then call them renders too, but is that any different than this? Yeah, we're basically tracing, but it takes more skill than just simple tracing to make a render, no matter what movie they're based from. Personally, I use screenshots and then add details to make each of my rendered pieces still have the style of Balto, but they end up standing out as someone other than Balto or Jenna or Aleu or whoever. Isn't that the point of renders somehow? But true, if some people don't like renders, then go look at some fanarts or other fan-images like wallpapers, avatars/icons and signatures; we won't blame people if they do... Hey, maybe the site should have a separate area for renders? It's a shame that it takes something like this to finally get them to work together now, but at least they are... and that's a major improvement in leadership for the whole site. - Juuchan17

- Juuchan17 Oh lord, you cannot imagine how much I agree with you. And the separate area for renders was already suggested. I also try to add my own touch to my renders (kinda fail at it though) Simple tracing would make the renders too boring. I try to use the screenshots as some kind of guideline to build my own picture on it.

I try to use the screenshots as some kind of guideline to build my own picture on it. I'm sure a bunch of other render-makers would agree with this if they took the chance to read this stuff. And someone suggested that already? Geez, that shows how much I hear around here... Heck, my original renders were terrible. Compared to my recent stuff [such as THIS depressing piece], I've improved my technique and taught myself some new moves that make my render look the way Balto characters... or any character for that matter, could have looked in the sequels [or something like that; I dunno what I'm talking about anymore...]. - Juuchan17

- Juuchan17 It was suggested in one of the topics that where made during the "sparkledog"-thing. (Too lazy to search for it right now. XD) I´ve seen your renders, they are quite impressive. And that´s a shame that people who dislike renders bash all of them. Sure there are a lot of lazy recolors but thereare also people out there who really put effort into their works. But heh, that´s another story.

But heh, that´s another story. ...I don't even know of the "sparkledog" thing... nor do I care. I'm surprised those are allowed [or any other unrealistic character for that matter, according to the fan character creations and such] and yet renders based from other animated characters are not? Hmm, sounds very fishy... even for a site where everything has to be Balto-related or it's not allowed. And thanks. I sucked at my old ones, but I like where I'm at now render-wise. It's not easy, but one can only get better over time. Yours are pretty good too, and your effort really shows. Honestly, I've never heard of anyone hating renders on here, though that might be because I rarely do much on here anymore until recently... - Juuchan17 [EDIT: 11.23.11] Just to let you know, I think the rule has been changed now... I'm only mentioning this because I just noticed that my renders of Varadan [a fox rendered with the base from "Fox and the Hound"] and other non-wolf characters are now back up in my gallery and the deactivated list in my send menu is gone. I'm guessing the mods got permission from Steet to return them to normal? If so, then thank you very much, mods; I think everyone else affected by this will be extremely grateful to Steet for understanding and for listening to our concerns with renders. I hope the rules will soon reflect the recent changes... maybe with picture examples this time perhaps?

Bumping this, but I see quite a problem here - the base being rendered to look like something dramatically different and a situation occurring where a mod deactivates a render because the image doesn't "look like" it uses a Balto base. Would the onus be on the artist to then "prove" what movie the base was from? I might be misunderstanding the topic a bit, a bit of help please

I will say that I have used a couple of other movies for bases with Balto rendered characters, so consider those as.. crossovers? I dunno... - Juuchan17
