No actually I thank you for your honesty. I wasn't one hundred percent sure about dog shows but I assumed (silly me) that they might have smaller regional ones. I will use this information to build her as a character. And who knows, maybe she will eventually make it into one of your fan fictions (which I think are marvelous).

Why thank you! And I should think that, if you could flesh her out a bit more, I'd be happy to include her in a fan fiction. I could hardly fault you for not knowing about the history of dog shows. Heck, they may well have had some in Alaska...but I think it highly unlikely. Still, to be fair, I have no proof either way. I just find the notion untenable against the history of the region at the time.

I would like to submit the following to help clarify a particular matter.

"......I realize that most people don't know the history of dog shows and Alaska..... but a few important facts here:"

"The first U.S. dog show was the Westminster Dog Show, held in New York in 1877."

Please see the article in the following link for the history of the first officially recognized dog shows in the U. S. (1874). As was the case with the early Westminster dog show, these other earlier shows also primarily featured gun dogs. Please note the sources listed at the end of this article.

Your post is besides the point, and you really need to find another hobby rather than hanging around looking to start arguments, missy.

To quote your linked article:

"The Illinois Show was for Setters and Pointers only."

And then there is the website I got MY information from, which refers to the first and only surviving of the old annual dog shows of the U.S., which welcomed many breeds, thus:

http://animal.discovery.com/petplanet/dog-show/history/history.html

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/history-of-dog-shows.html

This is all besides the point. She was not looking for hard facts, but rather general information. Hunting clubs holding exclusive shows for a few selected breeds do not equate. Learn the difference. And, if you have nothing of consequence to offer pertaining to the subject of the topic itself, then I suggest you stay out.

Just an update here, to get us back on track! 8)

I haven't forgotten any of the winners, nor even those who put forth their best efforts. Not in the least! I have been in communication by PM, and other means, with the first and second-place winners, and even some of those who didn't win, about my long-term plans for the contest winners and some others. And, happily, a new and promising change in my career path is actually going to allow me to step back into my fan fiction writing in a way that I haven't been able to do for a few YEARS now. Lots of new opportunities are in the offing, and I plan to make good on what I have had to shelf (in terms of writing projects) and this latest contest.

Plus, I am working on the composition of my own versions of both Togo's and Balto's teams (my fan characters), and I have made plans to include some of the contest participants' characters...those which struck me as very interesting. Some of the contestants already know this. BUT I am going to develop this even further, and have plans to contact some other AS members about their Balto Source fan characters and see what can be done in that vein.

Once again, thanks everyone! Stuff will be forthcoming over the holidays and the coming year!

Bump time.

I wanted to get this back on track, and assure everyone who was involved, and who entered the contest (and especially the winners) that it's not dead in the water. To wit...

Phase 1
This has been completed. Phase 1 consisted of getting a good fan artist to draw Togo and Fritz (and some of my other fan characters for other projects). And of getting the contest up, running and completed. And that is done now...and went quite well.

Phase 2
Phase 2 seems to be the period where things just sort of seemed to slow down a bit. I STILL need to talk to the "mate" owners of the characters which won the contest, and set up the parameters of the romantic relationships. That is still in the offing, and any delay has been my fault entirely. One or two have already taken it upon themselves to get some things rolling, which is totally fine by me. CatWhoHas14Tails already designed Fritz and Pixie's litter, and they look great! http://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/view_fanart/catwhohas14tails_Some_of_Frixie_s_pups/191.html&numart=1038. Lady Jenna and I have been discussing how we need to sit and talk about Milena and Fritz, and their particular romantic affiliations. (That Fritz is such a rogue! ROFL) And I still have my duties to the other winners. Never fear! I am on it!

Another part of Phase 2 will involve commissioning a fan artist (and I do mean a paid commission, by the by) to draw both Togo's AND Balto's teams (my versions of them) with the winners and some other contestants of the Togo/Fritz mate contest...and who expressed some interest in Balto and his team (my Balto). I hinted that I was going to do that, and I meant it. I have been lining up the teams, and will still include some of the REAL dogs from the actual teams. But it still needs to be drawn, colored and added to a nice background in each case. And for all concerned, and no offense to fan artists in general, but I will be looking for a top-shelf fan artist to do this work. If I am going to pay for it, I want high-end, top-notch quality. Color, shading, shadows, Balto movie art style, and good backgrounds. (Any takers?)

Now, I approached certain contestants about that a while back, and so far the response has been great. And I wanted to give those people and their characters that chance. And I am selecting a few other characters, and will not add them without the owners' permission first, to round out the teams. And then, when completed, I will make sure everyone knows so they can see and revel in it! (And, with some limitations, they can then add their membership on either Togo or Balto's team to their character's bios).

Phase 3
This involves the long-term work of creating fan fiction material. I have no deadline or anticipated completion date for this stuff! (Just wanted to get that out there now.) The plan is there, and the ideas are turning about in my head. But if anyone is expecting immediate or timely completion, you're gonna find yourself disappointed. lol Paaaatience.

Questions? Thoughts? Suggestions? Grumblings? LOL

Afterthought: I need a few MALE characters for these team line-ups. lol Seriously. Any takers with PUREBRED Siberian Husky characters that are REALISTIC in design and not in the least bit "sparkley"?

Actually, I hadn't planned on making it a contest. lol But it is an interesting thought. I was just going to choose...and have already talked to a few potential team member owners...

My intent is to add her to one of the teams, yep. If you're still good with that.
